Ugo Monye: Former England wing says rugby union must tackle
       'drinking culture'

Not sure how well that will go down in many clubs.

And i thought Ugo was cleverer than just spouting click-bait! I
understand his reasons, though I don't agree with many of them,
but disappointed he hasn't explained how he's going to tackle my
       drinking culture problem.

       I get the basic sentiment.
When I was at uni, I quit playing for a few years because I
didn’t enjoy the ‘culture’. I like a drink, but it was weird and
       a bit extreme.
Having played for a few clubs since, it’s fair to say that it’s
definitely not essential that you go ‘all-in’ on the drinking
side of things. However, I can understand how it might put some
people off. Particularly if you are trying to appeal to new
communities who have a bit of a different view on alcohol.

Although in the local club scenarios, in lower leagues, there
will be a fair bit of drinking going on in the clubhouse etc.
But this culture is not being successfully driven at the Stoop
or at HQ, due to the fact that it takes about 3 weeks to buy a
drink at the bar - even when the game's over!

Very tricky issue, as most clubs at all levels will rely on Bar
takings to keep subscriptions and match fees in check. but I
understand where he is coming from. Perhaps the way forward is
to make it very convenient and comfortable for those who wish to
partake in soft drinks or tea and coffee.
I know from my local cricket club that bar takings are essential
to the club, and I can't see how rugby clubs would be different.

Having a decent range of non alcoholic beers would at least give
       people a choice.
If the club had Guinness Zero or (even better) some of Big
Drop's stuff on tap, I would happily drink it in place of
       regular beer.

       It's not. It's pretty irrelevant.
You can own a pub, visit a pub, drink in a pub... and still
think rugby needs to move on from a "laddish drinking culture".

I played for years and my club did have a few people who really
loved the whole drinking culture. But we also had teetotallers,
and people who would always drive so limited themselves to one
or two drinks at most. There was never pressure on anyone to
join in, although quite a few did on occasion.
IMO it's an image that isn't completely deserved. For Ugo to
latch onto it seems a bit click-baity, as mentioned earlier.
