Wonder if Danny's thinking he made the wrong choice?

Well that confirmed a lot of things that I think most of us have
suspected for a while; a lot of the players on the fringe of the
starting 23 aren't up to it. Other than Curry, Underhill, Smith,
May and Marchant, none of those players should be sure of
playing for England again without drastic improvement.
The pack looked really poor as a unit generally. Ewels offers
nothing at test match level and Hill looked well off the pace.
They're very similar players and neither is good. Chick played
OK but is probably fourth or fifth in line at best. Thought
Walker did alright, but Collier doesn't offer enough around the
park at that level. The pack as a unit looked overwhelmed. The
bulk of the world cup pack is going to be made up of players who
weren't there but depth looks like a real problem as no one put
their hand up.
As for the backs, Care was a real step up from Randall but the
game was gone by the time he had time to make an impact, and had
little platform. Marcus looks a lot more comfortable with him
there and when there was a platform, the attack looked fine. Not
sure Randall has it either, but there is a dearth of options at
9 who aren't 35 years old. Atkinson won't cut it. Not sure
Cokanasiga has it either. Freeman doesn't look anything special
either. Why play Bailey if you aren't going to see him at 10?
Marcus was excellent ball in hand but you have to ask a couple
of questions, I think, if we're going to start him at 10 in the
long run for England. The first is the low red-zone efficiency
with him pulling the strings for england; this is poor, can he
and Eddie / Gleeson fix it? Secondly, his kicking has gone awry
of late and he's missed a few you'd expect him to get. These
guys aren't machines, but you don't win world cups with a 60%
goalkicker. Maybe adding Farrell happens to fix both of these,
but they're valid questions now. That said, we know he's special
and had he not have been there, England may only have scored
six.
A Care, Smith, Farrell axis should be what we see in Australia
and at the World cup but I doubt Eddie goes there as he'll play
someone "steadier" at 9.

I was most disappointed with Willis. Barely noticed him.
Ewels is probably one of the worst second rows England have put
out on a regular basis for a very, very long time. You only
notice him when he makes a mistake, but his unnoticeable periods
aren't the good quiet where someone going about their business
in a slick fashion like a Richard Hill. Just awful

From a purely selfish point of view, I wouldnt mind him missing
that Aus tour and resting up.

I don't know why anyone who supports a club side would ever want
anything but recognition for their players. There's a couple of
series before the rwc, dombrandt deserves to be there but
missing the aus series might dent his chances. Similar for Danny
- he has a slim chance at international redemption and a world
Cup swansong - the fact that they might get injured playing at
the pinnacle of the game and not be able to play for Quins is no
reason to want them not to achieve it. Dommers especially you'd
expect to be away most of the season in any case.

Not denying anyone higher honours, I just hope they are fighting
fit for next season.
Let's be honest, Dombrandt seems pretty durable, but one week
with EJ and he is injured. The bloke has form.
