Semi Final Result - My thoughts
DIR By: SwindonQuin

I'm not angry, just disappointed.
Firstly, congratulations to Saracen's, the better team on the
day won. I cant bring myself to wish you luck in the final
however.
Secondly, I am very disappointed with the teams performance
today. There seemed to be a lack of focus and desire/belief in
the team.
What truly disappointing is we had all the opportunity to win
that game, 3 yellow card with an overlap on one. 30 minutes with
a man advantage, result, 5 points. Not good enough against a
team as good as Saracens or frankly any team.
In contrast, 1 yellow card against us and we concede 14 points
in 10 minutes!
The game is over, its done, its been a good season but we have
paid the price in the semi finals against a better team.
Hopefully them learn from this as they should have learnt from
the Champions cup defeat.
Dust off, dry down and we go again next season.
We did well this season, top 4 was the expectation, it was
achieved, I would have loved to have beaten Saracens but its not
to be this year.
For the last time this season, Come on you Quins.

Best way to be!
Especially if you are one of the brave souls who made what
appears to be a surprisingly difficult journey in London to
actually be there. It's most important you had a good day out. A
win is a bonus.

Have to agree with the above. Too many of our better players
didn't show up when needed. We didn't get Jones, March or Tyrone
in the game. wEV looked like a kid trying too hard. Their last
try summed up the game for me.
On the plus side, we can only get better, they can't so have a
good summer boys and those not going to Oz get a good rest. DC
enjoy the Baa Baa's but seriously, look back at where your
decision making is costing us.

I'm not sure it's decision making, it's finishing I saw as the
problem. Once again we weren't able to finish the job once we
were in their 22. We needed to be more focused and a bit less
snatching at Hail Mary passes and attempting unlikely offloads.
We blew chance after chance, coughed up possession and you can't
do that with a team like Saracens . And we seemed to all be
running on short fuses. I know there are issues with Saracens,
but you got to be cool in the top two inches.
That said, the team gave it a heck of a go, and it's just a
shame that wasn't enough. Fair play to a great set of Saracens
fans in the East Stand, we had a good time trying to out do each
other for support and discussing the game.

Well done Sarries, better team on the day. Under-par performance
for me. I find myself getting very annoyed at the constant
scrutiny of so many tackles and the resulting decisions. A lot
of these benefitted Quins today in terms of numbers (although I
thought that against Walker was wrong and impacted the game a
lot) but even those given against Sarries were for me
unnecessary and looked far worse in slow time than live, as is
often the way.
I still don’t understand how we can expect a tackler to lower
his body sufficiently quickly to not tackle the ball-carrier in
an upright position. The tackler has fractions of seconds to
react and can’t do it. What are they supposed to do, curl up in
a ball and disappear? Am I overreacting?

The word I was looking for is "clinical". We get in their 22, we
need to be clinical in finishing them off. We were anything but.

Sadly Quins went out with a whimper. Mind you, considering how
many times I've been infuriated with Quins not being switched
on/ambling around/playing way below their best, it's been a
pretty enjoyable season and right now I'd take 3rd place again
for next season if offered. Sarries in a different class today.

Looking back at the season, it has been littered with missed
opportunities, tackles and defensive intensity. Losing two great
flankers for a large part of the season hasn’t been ideal and I
think Lewies is losing his fitness.
Dombrandt will learn and for most of the season, Walker has been
an asset, not a liability. We were outplayed in the line out
today, by the sound of things, but I would like to see more of
Riley, which will also put pressure on Walker.
Have a good rest, mend and return next season with more defence,
better discipline and better ball skills.
I am thinking we’ll have a new skipper.
Best of luck to players representing countries this summer. I
hope Collier, Murley and Lynagh get a chance for England.

The tackler has plenty of time to crouch. Billy was hitting
upwards. Daly was a little unlucky. Walker was standing upright
and never bothered to attempt to be legal. Lozowski also made no
effort and instead flew in incredibly dangerously and ko'd
himself.

They were better today and they also have a game plan that
requires less to ‘click’. We know that and played right into
it. Really disappointed but we do need to do something against
them than just try high-risk improvisation. They are however
thoroughly unpleasant and all that cheering in the faces of the
oppo needs to be sorted.
