Absolutely. He's not even pulled on the quarters yet!
Our recruitment has been pretty much spot on over the last two
years, particularly from South Africa. As you say, Herbst
fulfills specific skill sets and he'll be available all season
long.

Having been caught with their hands in the cookie jar for a
second time, I'd be amazed if Sarries aren't being whiter than
white. Another significant breach would surely be catastrophic
for them reputationally.
I think there are two things which have helped Sarries retain
the core of their squad. Firstly many of their major stars still
harbour England ambitions, so a move abroad is off the table for
now.
They also have a few senior players whom are near retirement
(e.g. Goode, Maitland) who have earned decent money in their
careers already and for family/future work reasons a move away
at this point doesn't suit.
You'd guess the next World Cup will be the last hurrah in an
England shirt for Mako, Billy and possibly Farrell and Daly. So
that's probably the point when we'll see some levelling out

I actually think we are ok in the second row
Herbe
Lamb
Lewies
Hammond
CSW
Jurevicius
No worries over Lamb
No reason to have any worries over Herbe, seems a good signing
Hammond will be a year older (and more experienced)
Likewise Jurevicius
CSW. Injury free and having a season getting back into the sport
(played for Scottish as well as us). I know some have knocked
the signing but I am pretty sure the situation wasnt a shock to
the club (in terms of the re acclimatising to rugby). I still
think he will prove a very good piece of business
You could argue that we maybe need one more option as cover.
There are no real academy options to pick from yet, so an older
experienced head to come in and be a squad player for a season
would help. Maybe a decent Championship option. I doubt there
is a shortgae of options (wasnt it around 70-80 prem players
quoted as being without a club next season) Cap space will be
the issue

Don't forget the Sarries players still maintain the benefit of
the properties, businesses etc. and income thereof. So they
continue to be in a beneficial personal income position even if
the additional payments and salary are not as great as they
were. How else did property magnate Chris Ashton squeeze into
the Leicester set up? It wasn't for a full salary that's for
sure as he has a solid personal income stream to keep his family
afloat.
A proper level playing field would have been to reverse the
overpayments to create a uniform market for players.

I was also underwhelmed when we got Symons who at the time was
injury prone and not that great. How well did that turn? As said
strong basics and brought some rough grunt that we needed so
badly.
I’ll absolutely giveHerbst any chance and cheer him all the way
when playing. What I mean by underwhelmed is how many of us
would have him on our shopping list?
I agree on Lamb if he comes back anywhere near where he left off
then the short is his.

Naively I believed they weren't cheating after they were called
out the first time and managed to get the salary cap increased
while threatening legal action and agreeing to stay within the
new cap.
Yes, I do think it'll level out. But I doubt these guys have
taken pay cuts, and those older guys will be on a hefty wage.
It's an international side in all but name.

I just hope to see Lewies back at second row not at 6. Our back
row was a problem in the Sarries game. Lewies is not quite quick
enough for 6 and Evans was a bit off the pace which I suppose
was to be expected due to he has got knocks every game he has
played since coming back

Evans had such a strange game. First time I've been genuinely
disappointed in him. The three penalties he gave away were all
of the "what were you thinking?!" variety and after that he had
to watch himself. I thought he'd be a point of difference for us
in that game.
Everyone's entitled to a bad game and his standard is usually so
high. With him and Kenningham available we're well stocked for
7!
