I'd have thought his performance in the first half on Saturday
would tell us why. Sadly, too many of those so far this season.
I don't think the yellows are an issue because at least 3 of
them were nonsense.
He's not consistently putting 80 mins together for whatever
reason so players like Quirke, Randall & Van Portfleit should be
getting the nod (albeit Quirke injured for Australia, sadly).

WC is over a year away - there is no guarantee that he will be
showing the form he is today when it arrives. While this is
true for all players the odds on a tail off a significantly
higher due to his age. Also, the time and space he uses to be
so effective for Quins are less available at international
level, plus his box kicking is still quite hit and miss.
Don't get me wrong - he is fantastic for Quins and in general
his form has been v good for the last 18 months, but I can also
see why EJ hasn't picked him.

No player is ever 100% consistent, not even consistently bad as
every once in a blue moon Elliot Daly does something in an
England shirt which isn't truly appalling.
Over the last three years Ben Youngs hasn't been the best scrum
half available for England and on balance a lot of the time DC
was better as were/are other players. Eddie Jones has a habit of
being incredibly loyal to a player and then suddenly they are
gone - often for being not discernibly worse than when they were
picked and likewise other players just won't be picked.
Sadly it's the way he works, Gatland and the Lions worked in the
same way to the detriment of a certain C Robshaw.
