The acoustics were abysmal yesterday and my group didn’t have a
clue what was being said. I’m not a Craig David fan but couldn’t
tell on noise from another. Could it be that when the stadium is
full the bodies absorb the sound eliminating the echo. With the
entire top tier empty it would have that effect. Or did the
sound people just get it horribly wrong.
Great game for the TV audience once again, frustrating
first half that looked like we hadn’t played for three weeks and
Gloucester played well. We turned up in the second half as usual
and got the five points. Not really in doubt.
It was also amusing that a group of Glaws fans near us
were getting quite lairy and enjoying the mistakes we were
making by chanting “Eeeyore Eeeyore” . They were much quieter in
the second half and sat very despondently in silence at the end.

I can see both sides of the Big Game/Stay at the Stoop argument.
However the issue that clinches it for me is the PA in the
ground. I took both my kids, who are 6 & 8 year old, and my
partner. All season ticket holders and regular visitors to the
Stoop. My five year old burst into tears at the "horrible
noise" that was Craig David. That is not his fault, it was the
awful PA. While not a fan, he is perfectly good entertainment,
but the sound where we were (block 51) was beyond awful.
the announcements and music that followed meant the six year old
made herself catatonic and had to be taken home in tears as the
game started. That is really not OK, no one needs the PA that
loud, it meant i could not chat to my friends ( 13 of us who are
all mates), we could not hear who the subs were and my daughter
and her mum actually left and went home.
All the arguments in Big Game (s) have pros and cons, but they
need to turn that noise off or down. My kid actually does not
want to go back again. Inevitably her mum thinks it is my
fault.
It might be replacing a PA at such a large venue is not easy or
cheap. If so, please, please turn it down. I have had another
two hours this morning of "why was it so loud Daddy" with death
stares from her mum. Laurie, if you are reading this, I think
you're doing a great job, but ask them to turn it off or down
and tell mum it was not my fault.

I have no problem with Big Game as its a settled fixture, gets
80k and is at a good time of year for family get togethers and
seat prices are manageable.
Yesterday was fun but with only 47k, not sure it achieved what
the club hoped. With the current economic situation, prices
should have been lower maybe £40 for adults and £20 for kids
stadium wide and they may have got 60k+.
Shame but stick with Big Game and keep the rest at the Stoop.

When it comes down to the 80 minutes I'm not that bothered about
which ground I'm sitting in, but if they're going to put on an
extra game at Twickenham I'd hope it wouldn't be the last home
game of the season.

I'd rather have it played at a bigger Stoop - perhaps 20/25K; to
get there, I imagine the club thinks it needs to attract another
10K regular fans but broadening the appeal has its own price,
such as the razzmatazz of pop and fireworks - doesn't work for
me, but the rugby does, so I'll continue to support it.
I rewatched the game at home last night and the sound came over
very different from the stadium, so I imagine that some of the
problem was acoustic/sound level-related.

If we want a bigger Stoop, we probably have to out up with more
games at the Big Stoop.
I imagine the club will have been a bit disappointed at the 47k
who attended yesterday, but it's comparable with the first Big
Game, and close to the point at which it makes as much profit as
a sellout home game. The club have been arguing with PRL for
years to be allowed a second Big Stoop game, so I think it's
here to stay. If they can grow it to the point where it fills
the ground, it's basically worth an extra home game (or more) in
profit terms.
And I imagine it has knock on impact on regular games. The more
casual fans enjoy the game, the more there will be a pool of
support to fill an enlarged Stoop.
The sound system on the pitch was oddly poor (especially
compared to how Pete Tong came over at Christmas, which is odd),
but I didn't really come for the pre match entertainment. The
match itself lived up to billing, which was the key thing.

It was only about 2,500 short of capacity. Do you think they
thought they'd sell out 50k pretty easily?

All the talk has been of this being the "inaugural BSKU" so I
expect it to continue for the foreseeable. The first BG was as
poorfour says comparable in terms of attendance & it's now a
firm fixture that the club benefits from. The RFU will like the
extra use of the stadium and footfall in their shops from the
casual fans who fancy buying an England shirt. Given they want
to bolster their coffers after a turbulent couple of years, it
wouldn't surprise me if they gave us "mates rates" on hiring the
ground as an enticement to hold a second event there as a
benefit for both them and us.
Assuming the club can get enough people through the gate to
break even, then they will benefit from that too, potentially
adding to the funding to building the new Bigger Little Stoop in
the medium term.

Well the Club have Gloucester to thank for selling so many seats
and they were lucky Glos stills had something to play for. We
have been warned in our season ticket purchase this second game
is here to stay so can’t moan next year. They have to choose
match and dates very carefully as so much else on at this time
of year.
