I think your ex will be delighted to hear that! :)

I take it that you have never been to Hounslow or Feltham?

Wonder what New Zealanders would have to say if an England
       player had said this!
Can't see how having the same 5 or 6 nations hosting World Cups
       would grow the game personally.

Hosting a world cup is an expensive business and you need the
infrastructure as well. Realistically, growing the game outside
of the T1 nations via world cup hosting limits you to T2 nations
that can afford it, have the infrastructure, and have the
interest from the government to commit to it. It's a short list.
I would expect that it's easier to grow the game by having good
TV broadcasting to new countries, funding coaching / doing
international coaching, actively trying to set up leagues, etc.
No doubt that there's a boost from having a world cup in your
country but I don't know how much that sticks - once it's over,
if nothing's changed with local teams and infrastructure then
it'll be a short term bump.

I agree with JG. Unless there is a good league structure,
probably only a short term win.
I often wonder which countries currently have professional
       leagues.
       My guess is:
New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Sri Lanka, Madagascar South
       Africa, USA+Canada, France, Ireland+Wales+Scotland+Italy and
       England.
Have I missed any? Argentina maybe?
