Back home after an entertaining and frustrating game. The boys
did so well in the second half to get deservedly ahead. We just
needed that extra try to take us closer to 40 points and
probably out of sight for Saints to catch. The frustration came
from too many turnovers and missed opportunities when we were in
the ascendancy. Fair play to Grayson, an amazing kick to win it.
Oh well. We are in the curious position of wanting Bath to win.
       Not something I often do!

Fair play to Saints, they came out firing and put together some
excellent play. We looked lacklustre and didn't seem to spark
until the second half. Our defensive system went out of the
window. Lawes was immense for them and their scrum half had an
       excellent first 49.
On the plus side, we came back well in the second half and left
a few tries out there. Some positives to take - Louw playing
most of the game, and showing what he can do in the loose. Jones
making some good breaks. The Marchant/Jones try being yet
       another for the Quins showreel.
I disagree with the criticism of SGB. He's had some very good
games for us, when he's had a run of games. Archie White had the
same criticism. Both are very good players who need to start
       more to show their best.
I think the big impact for us was the scrum, or lack of. We
destroyed them on the last contested one, then suddenly they
took the bullets out of our gun. We also lacked leadership. Very
often when we turn things around, players point out that "Marler
spoke". It seemed like nobody was galvanising the team last
       night.
But take nothing away from Saints. Their first half laid the
foundations for a win that they deserved.

We were certainly unlucky that it went to uncontested scrums
just as we seemed to be getting ascendancy there. However, with
my best tin foil hat on, I can't claim it was a conspiracy to go
to uncontested scrums, the bloke clearly needed an HIA after
being hit by Lawes (wasit?). Even more galling that it was a
Northampton player responsible for it, but that's the way the
cookie crumbles sometimes and we seemed a bit bemused as a
result. Still, the result was on a knife edge and without that
last penalty we could have won that. We were just unlucky that
       we didn't.

No issue with how the uncontested scrums came about - clearly
pure misfortune. However, the law does seem wrong here - surely
the team who is unable to scrummage safely needs to give up a
player from elsewhere on the field?
From a cause and effect POV, Carley’s ineptitude cost us this
game. When a referee makes an incorrect decision in the 79th
minute which results in a kickable penalty to decide the game,
it’s absolutely right to question it.
However, SGB’s yellow was a far bigger factor IMO. We were in
front with momentum and his actions screwed is over. His first
offence was totally unnecessary and directly led to 3 points for
Saints. His second was fairly fortunate not to be red, but as it
was the yellow gave the initiative back to Saints at a critical
point. With Kerrod now covering loosehead and Baxter swapping
sides, I’m now really hacked off we extended his contract.

What happened at the end when DC got carded, it looked like we’d
rucked over and won the ball back. How could Carley get Luke’s
text book turn over wrong when he was clearly not the tackler.
They don’t/can’t look at those ones again? The uncontested
scrums took away a weapon from our armory as I believe we have
       the best stats for that.
That was a great game to watch and Northampton love to play
running rugby and both sides played some thrilling stuff. Good
luck to them for the play offs.

Carley is garbage. I said as soon as I saw it was him that we'll
get some rubbish decisions and so it proved. Uncontested scrums
was a massive win for saints. Rather frustrated with that match
       😡

It funny that nobody has mentioned the try they didn’t score in
the first half. Perhaps it’s all the other stuff that went on
       that has overshadowed that one.

The grounding that looked short? One angle also looked like he'd
lost control, but i don't know if there was separation.
