Prep To Win

...is out on Amazon Prime now. I watched the first episode
during my commute.
It's really well done, with some great contributions and
insights from the players and (to a lesser extent) the coaches.
Ep 1 is pretty much a warm up for the rest of the series, I
suspect, as it deals a lot with the end of last season, what
that means for the players for this season, and introducing some
of the key characters. Danny, Marcus, Louis, Steph and Baby Chis
are prominent, as is Lennox Anyanwu. Very little from Marler
yet, but I can't imagine them doing a doco without having a
contribution from him.

There’s also a moment in Ep1 where he leaves the training field
on what looks like a mobility scooter.

I think it was all filmed during pre season only....so
interested to see it but not sure how much interest it's going
to gather...

Are episodes being released weekly? I am allergic to Amazon and
don’t shop with them. I have used my freebie watching Clarkson
so will have to pay £7.99 a month. Really don’t want to pay for
more than a month so any info would be appreciated.

Watched it all:
“Drive to Survive” for rugby it isn’t
Obano said in an interview he learned about how to film by
watching YouTube tutorials and sadly it shows.
No narrative, no drama, no tension, no storyline, nothing for
non rugby fans to hook into as a documentary, not sure there’s
much in it for non Quins fans.
No views from family (barring a nice bit with Marcus), but
certainly no views on the risks etc.
Nothing from the season, no behind the scenes, no dressing room,
no downsides beyond the bit about head injuries.
As a quins fan it was great and really cool to see.
Beyond that - don’t get it.

Interesting watch for a Quins fan but not much for non Quins
fans, and nothing for non rugby fans!
I enjoyed it but seems a bit of a missed opportunity to show
case the sport to a wider audience.

I'm sure if Obano is serious about the business he'll develop
and learn like anyone - but if this was going to have some real
impact it needed a proper experienced documentary team on it,
not someone who's just got into it.
I get how he has a good relationship because he's a player and
the players were probably relaxed talking to him -- but if
someone with a similar lack of experience in making
documentaries had pitched for it, I very much doubt they'd have
given them a shot at it.
It's nicely put together, but it's not much more than a few
nicely shot player interviews and a chance to see a load of fans
you might know in a tv show (which was fun).
