Is the link with Auckland still going?
Or was it a one off with Marchant going over.
Not sure if these strategic partnerships bring a lot, the best
bit about the one with the Sharks was when our mascots bundled
theirs - other than that not a lot to recall.
The tie in with NZ rugby also seems to have gone totally cold -
did any NZ player come this way?
I expect this will go the same way as the tie up with Esher

I would have thought that the pandemic, and in particular New
Zealand's approach to it, pretty much switched off the
partnership.

I wonder whether London Scottish are now looking towards ground
sharing at The Stoop.
They wanted to move away from The Richmond Athletic Ground.
From what I have heard -
- they looked at ground sharing with Esher. But, they need to
think about all of the age grade rugby, etc. This would probably
all get lost with a move to Esher.
- they looked at a ground up the A316 towards Chiswick. The
problem is that this ground in in the ULEZ zone.
In the past, they probably had a few too many fans for the RAG.
But, I think their support base has dwindled and now they fit in
quite easily. I am not sure that this partnership will do
anything for that support base - unless they start to be
successful again on the field.
I am also not sure on the benefit of having lots of Quins
players playing at the RAG. In my opinion, the RAG is a
fantastic playing field. But, I don't think that it would suit
our style of play at all.
As an example, Mark Bright is the highest try scorer for
Richmond this season. I think that every try that he has scored
has come of the back of a driving maul. I would suggest that
most tries at the RAG are scored from either driving mauls or
pick and gos.
But, moving to the Stoop would probably be a win-win.
They could continue to use the RAG for age grade and training.
They could use the Stoop to develop a new style of play (where
backs actually score tries instead of just the forwards).
And - Quins could make a little extra cash for ticket sales and
f+b for LS games. This would be good for teams such as Bedford
and Pirates who have a large travelling support.
The question is though - could the pitch at the Stoop support
Quins + Quins women + London Scottish playing all their games on
it? Or, would it just be a mess?

The relationship with Esher was supposedly a groundshare whilst
they found a new ground but in practice appeared to be a
negotiating tactic to get a better deal with Richmond.
There was also of course the announcement less than six months
ago that their semi-professional team were actively exploring
the possibility of joining an expanded Super Six league in
Scotland. Unfortunately the SRU didn't seem to be so keen when
it came to the crunch.
I'm sure a deal with Quins will enable them to keep their club
functioning whilst they decide what their next pie-in-the sky
plan will be but at least it shouldn't harm Quins.
Just don't expect it to last.

Why would playing at the RAG mean that they can only score from
mauls? Surely that is due to the team tactics and nothing to do
with the location / pitch, unless it was a complete quagmire,
which last time I looked it isn't

If Harlequins want to develop a relationship with another club,
surely it would make sense to choose another club which shares a
common interest in also strengthening the England national team,
and not another club which supports another nation which has
contrary objectives.
Another club like, say, oh I don't know, er, um, well, what
about Richmond?

The RAG pitch is lovely. Well drained and very lush.
But, often, the grass is on the long side.
From watching games there, it sometimes looks quite attritional
playing there.
The grass at the Stoop appears to be closer cropped. Probably a
lot easier to run on

Scottish announced that they would be using the Kings House
playing fields which are over Chiswick bridge and on the right
hand side for all the age grade rugby and the RAG for first team
matches. Expensive if you don’t have a ULEZ vehicle.
