yesterday my local club won promotion to the english
championship. huge achievement by what is a local club with
local players in a good old fashioned wooden clubhouse and muddy
banks . . obviously they will be told they won’t be allowed to
join the top tier . managed by an old quins too Matty Cairns

Dorking also won promotion from London SE. They are an all
amateur club with no plans to start paying players and will now
start playing clubs in Nat 2 who have professionals. So like
last time we will come straight back down. A tremendous effort.
Our 10 Matt Noble also retiring after 10 years at the top as our
10. C’est La vie in RU.

Hopefully their players have more belief than some of their
supporters!

Speak for yourself! We all have plenty of belief but sadly it is
only about 4/5 years we did this before. You can’t play
professionals/semi pro v amateurs daft! But we have a buoyant
solvent club unlike many!

From memory, DRFC started off really well when they went up last
time, but couldn't keep it going and fell down the table as the
season went on. Gallant, but the reality was that DRFC wanted to
remain amateur and didn't want to pay players, so not the
players fault - more that the division was much stronger. The
club needs to be sustainable.

I was most certainly speaking for myself. I believe Richmond
don't pay their players either but they didn't come straight
back down.

I see they beat Rams, which is very local to me. They're a club
that have done well in recent seasons too. They've leapt ahead
of other bigger name clubs without splashing the cash. Hopefully
they'll go one better next season as it would be good to have
Championship rugby locally.
