game where he (correctly) binned Lambo for poor scrummaging but
then (incorrectly - as he later admitted) binned Skinner for
nicking the ball when it popped out of the scrum and not the
Tigers openside for pulling it back in.

I may be confusing the games too but yes, that scrum penalty and
Will Skinner's card still hurt! I remember clearly seeing the
ball pop out and be pulled back in!!

He subsequently did a Meet The Ref evening where he used that
clip to illustrate that although he got it wrong when you could
see the ball pop out, he hadnt actually seen that and could
only penalise what he saw.
These days, hed check with the TMO, I suspect. Though not all
refs do, as we have learned to our cost.

As I mentioned when this came up a few weeks ago, The incorrect
Skinner yellow wasn't even Barnes' worst mistake during the
game. His failure to penalise Ben Youngs for an off the ball
tackle on Tom Williams who was chasing a kick through to the
corner was much worse.
It's the worst refereeing performance I have ever seen at a game
and the only one where I consider the referee turned a win in to
a loss.

I saw Nige do that in the 2018 Calcutta Cup and nobody else
noticed.
Anyway, it wasn't Barnesy's finest hour, but I've seen worse.
Mostly from Steve Walsh. (When I first started reffing my kids,
my son decreed that I was the worst referee in the world but
then reconsidered and decided I was only the second worst).

I was there and I noticed !
Classic Nige
playing an advantage in his head
no
communication to the players
and when Grieg Laidlaw threw an
inception pass he blew up !!
