QUINS AIM TO COME FROM FOURTEEN POINTS DOWN TO SECURE A
QUARTER-FINAL SPOT.
Harlequins' coaching group have named their matchday squad that
will take on Montpellier in the second leg of Quins' Round of 16
Heineken Champions Cup clash.
There is just one change to the matchday 23 as Will Evans
replaces Tom Lawday in a straight swap in the number seven
jersey. After scoring his first Heineken Champions Cup try,
George Hammond retains his place as blindside flanker and the
tight five remains the same with Quins looking to reduce a
fourteen point deficit.
Harlequins' backline is unchanged after an impressive last 30
minutes in Montpellier which saw the side from South West London
run over four tries. Similarly to the backs, Quins' Impact
Players remain untouched with all eight players retainting their
places in the matchday squad from last weekend.
Scrum Coach Adam Jones said: “I think if you look back at our
results over the last 18 months or so it's clear to see that
it's never over. The first-half performance wasn't good enough,
but to be only fourteen points down overall with the score being
34 - 0 after 50 minutes is not too bad. Montpellier probably
felt they needed more of a 21 point lead so I'm sure they'll be
a bit frustrated, but we know they are still going to be tough
opponents back at The Stoop.
“We know we're only at half-time in the tie due to the new
format in the Last 16 stages of Europe, but it's up to us to
reduce the deficit and we can't afford to make the mistakes that
we made in the first 40 out in Montpellier last weekend."

Great to see WEv back, and I think he will make a big
difference. Shame that Lawday isn’t in the squad, but he’s had a
huge workload over the last few months so perhaps he needs a
rest.

Yeah I think Lawday looked a bit off the pace on Sunday, so a
sensible shout.

Anyway strong team just hope the Stoop is at near capacity and
very noisy! We will need that extra man.

I think I make it 12 changes to the montpellier team too…looking
back at previous selection the XV picked last week was their go
to strongest team so intrigued by the selection.

Trying to persuade myself that I'm not worried by the
Evans/Wallace selection, that nothing will happen to cause a
backrow of Evans/Wallace/Hammond, and that even if it did,
that's going to be fine.
I'm sure I'll get there before the game...

That Montpellier starting XV is definitely weaker than last
week. Very inexperienced half back pairing so will be
interesting to see how much Pollard leads from 12.

Wondering if there’s a Par Lam consideration that we will come
out fast and hard, get a few scores early so may be best to
overload bench to attack when we are tiring in the 2nd half?
