minor (but important) law changes etc. and was more in the mold
of 'I'm the referee so therefore I know everything'.

Well it's an opinion and full marks to you for expressing it
despite my attempts to help you!

Why would I need to have a role in world rugby refereeing in
order to have an opinion on Nigel Owens?

Indeed. Not everyone will agree and that's fine :)

He did make the odd absolute howler in his later years - the one
that sticks in the memory (and the throat) was penalising
Farrell in the 2018 Calcutta Cup for holding on when Hogg (I
think) had entered the breakdown from the wrong side - legal as
first man in 2017, not in 2018. If he'd called that one
correctly it could very easily have changed the momentum of the
       whole game.
He did also miss more than he might have done earlier in his
career. But it's massively over the top to say that he "didn't
       try to officiate".
Amongst other things, he was still - like all referees - subject
to the referee assessment process and review of his
performances. He was clearly still officiating at a level of
accuracy acceptable to the World Rugby reffing panel, or they'd
       have dropped him.

       Absolutely.
Everyone will have their opinion - some seem to be more
engineered by preference rather than objectivity.

If you're just a punter you made a very specific criticism with
       no evidence.
And you stated it as fact not opinion.

I think it's fairly obvious it's an opinion. Of course it's
specific criticism as those are my gripes. I still don't see why
I need to be on a World Rugby panel in order to air an opinion.
Like I said, it's fine not to agree with it.

Not at all, NO used to be one of my favourites. Back when the
       one liners were organic.

@Toast, definitely Nigel! I'd probably prefer him to most other
URC or SH officials, the prem and French refs appear to be
improving along with the Georgian lad. My own Munich club's
alumni, got to run the line last week in the W6N! As you can
imaging the German RU (DRB) takes officiating very seriously and
is improving at a rate of knots better than the playing side!
Possibility of being fast tracked because they're on current
playing standards, always going to neutrals!
