Its a tough ask but we are definitely capable. So much of that
result was down to poor luck and some bizarre mistakes we would
never normally make. Could catch couldnt tackle and some odd
decisions from smith and care. That wont happen next week. Coyq

Really well done to the boys for turning that around.
A harsh yellow was really costly, as we seemed to lose so much
shape. André is outstanding in defence, so losing him in
particular was difficult.
Fair play to Montpellier, they were ruthless when we were down
to 14 men. Their defence was impeccable in that first half. The
boys did well to create that first try and then build on that in
the last half hour.
I was thinking a 10 point deficit would have been okay for the
return leg. 14 is obviously more difficult but it could have
been worse. If conditions remain fine for next week then I think
we have a good chance. The boys must stay patient!!!

Ok, I'm going to ignore the 1st half, 2nd half much better, more
like Quins and the players respected three shirt.
What really annoyed me be was the last 20 seconds, 11 points
down, leg 2 to come, we could have cleared the ball and put out,
A good 2nd half recovery but no, mess about, another pen and
3more points to claw back.
😤😡😠

If we can start well next weekend and get the first points it'll
be very much game on.
Hopefully we've learned our lessons from the first half today.
Credit Montpellier, their defence was excellent, but everything
was in front of them. In the second half Smith showed a lot more
variety, with some dinked kicks and grubbers to turn them. Not
sure why he/Care didn't mix it up in the first half when it
became apparent we weren't getting any real go forward and their
blitz defence was well on top.

I think they were trying it - but in the wrong places and at the
wrong times because our more conventional running lines weren't
giving us much go forward.
it's clearly got to be a game of keeping it tight until they
begin to tire, and then exploiting the space as it opens up.

Apparently Montpelier have lost 19 of their last 20 away
matches. Not sure if that is due to weakened teams going away
but we need to clutch at all straws.

Do we? I came away from that game frustrated but pretty
confident we can do the job at the Stoop. Quins gave away a lot
of penalties on turnovers and didn't protect the ball enough,
and Montpellier exploited a very harsh yellow that should have
been checked by the ref.
On the positive side, we had their scrum under huge pressure and
didn't really get the reward for it (e.g. "Both sides popped up
together!" when only a Montpellier head was sticking out of the
front row), and got on the wrong side of a ref whose
interpretation of the breakdown suited them but not us.
I think we need to hope for decent weather and for WEv to play,
but allowing for that Quins showed plenty to suggest they can
win on aggregate.

Montpellier were su[erb in defence. However there were a few
things that went against us - such as players seeming to join
the rucks from anywhere - that could have given us some relief.
On the other had, nothing went right for us in the first half,
whatever we tried. The yellow card was a very poor decision that
cost us dearly.
We'll need a ref that we can understand better next week, and a
different line up. James Chis would have been useful, as would
Wev/Kenningham; but we have to play what we've got. Good that we
seemed to have scrum dominance, as another ref would have
penalised that more harshly.
We need to shore up the defence, kick for points, build a lead,
then cut loose. And maybe start David at full back.

Good question but I would have thought so - he was in the squad
at the start of the year and expected to return much earlier
than he did (he had the hamstring injury IIRC around the time of
the first batch of Euro matches).
