Each to their own! This apparent movement is not new, when
Aussies Rules was confined to Victoria before national
expansion, there was a lot of away travel, mostly across the
vast sprawling city of Melbourne, with the occasional visit to
Geelong, or Ballarat in the days that the VFA was an equal to
the VfL. Supporters mingled as they wished (and still do)
although a high proportion liked to group themselves together as
so named 'Cheer Squads' which still exist in the modern game,
traditionally each team behind the goal posts, a home and away
end, providing colour, singing and animation, especially the
large banners traditionally torn through as the teams entered
the field of play. These cheer squads were just that, there to
vociferously support their team together, opposing fans were/are
still welcomed, and grounds are not segregated, providing a
familiar, good natured atmosphere. As lo g as there is a choice,
I've no problem with blocks of support, I prefer especially in
Europe to be amongst the opposition, for Quins and England
games, it makes the 'match day experience' significantly more
enjoyable for Mrs BQ and myself! I think Quinssa's (I'm a
member) effort and work is tremendous and if it encourages and
makes it easier for more people to support us away then even
better, I'm sure the idea is for like minded to congregate
rather than to encourage segregation which is important to
distinguish. COYQ!

Mixing with opposition supporters is one of the things I find
enjoyable at rugby. There is a danger that the overt tribalism
that infects football takes hold if we are not very careful.
Support the team and cheer as loudly as you can but keep it
respectful.

Couldn't agree more, there is a danger with the amount of
alcohol intake, that it will only take a few to cause trouble,
and there are rivalries that are just waiting for a fuse to be
lit.

I'm not sure alcohol is likely to be the main cause of any
future problems in rugby. Alcohol has been present at rugby in
this country for years without many issues.

Thats what i'm saying its been fine up to now but you have 50+
people sitting close to 50+ opposition fans it won't take much,
currently you are scattered so away fans are very diluted, put
them together and who knows the outcome.

Personally I think the outcome would be a very enjoyable
afternoon in the company of the opposition.

Agree, we had a highly enjoyable afternoon last Sunday, with
1000 sitting next to their 12,000. Beer was involved too. Lots
of positive interactions. At Bristol, our 500 next to their
7,000, beer was present again, and they clapped us into the pub
after. Rugby spectating remains, nearly always, a positive
experience. If one wants a heavy dose of positive, do Clermont
away.

If we do manage to overcome Montpellier we will meet La
Rochelle. Interesting approach from La Rochelle when I went
there for a quins game. Ordered Cat 1 tickets, the best
available for away supporters. They were really late in issuing
them making it very difficult for people who left UK a few days
before the game. The tickets we got were in small sections and
we were in such poor seats (the poorest I have had at an away
game) and our view was blocked by the team benches, they had all
sorts of hangers on blocking the view, we could only watch the
game on the screen. They successfully stifled an attempt to
support the team. I believe Quinssa were aware of the problem
with the ticket allocation and fed this back and I complained
directly to La Rochelle, but never heard anything back. We had
a warm welcome from the citizens of La Rochelle, but the club
were a disgrace and the worst experience I have had travelling
to Europe. A long way to travel to have a view completely
blocked by arrogant team officials and have to watch the game on
a screen. Could have done that at home.

There were a lot of shell-shocked Bristolians on the way back to
the station (I had to run - literally - to catch the train I'd
booked, not planning on extra time!) but they were all gracious
and most of them acknowledged that they had seen, and been part
of, an epic game of rugby.
