I agree Jammy, I'd like to see Mateus stay in the back row as I
think he hits the rucks well, makes metres, tackles like a
dervish and can be an extra line-out option from there. I think
him and Hammond will be an absolute handful in a couple of
years.

If Symons is off, then Herbst is clearly his replacement in the
veteran enforcer role. Looks like a real unit.
Hammond is a 5 (like Lewies) and occasional 6 and will step into
Tizard's shoes at lock, probably paired with Lamb (should we
call him Mint Sauce?) or Herbst on a horses for courses basis.
CSW is a low risk high reward signing who probably needs another
off-season before he's productive. Matas I agree is probably a
"5.5" at most and has a real future here at 6, meaning this
signing makes a lot of sense, even if Symons stays.

Hopefully we get another season out of Symons. He's definitely
one of our cornerstone/key players, and always I feel less
confident when I see a Quins teamsheet without his name on it.
Lamb's progression over the last 15 months or so has been great
to see, so fingers crossed he's back soon and picks up where
left off.

Symons, is a real key stone, he does so much hard work, that
makes other things happen. Replacing him, is going to be really
tough. But something we need to be planning for…..

Good stuff.
Herbst might not be well known but what we’re actually trying to
replace is graft and nous around the set piece. Symons has been
excellent at doing the dirty work and if Herbst can fill that
void, I’ll be more than happy.
I imagine we’ll have done our homework and it’s possible that
our SA boys know him too.
