Not sold on our back 3.
Lynagh should have his teeth cut at 15, as I think he has the
potential.
I'd have personally gone
12. Esterhuizen
13. Jones
14. Marchant
11. Murley
15 Lynagh

It's still 2 players out of position, mind. Hammond has a lot of
strengths but I'm not sure I've seen any breakdown nous from
him...

I don’t mind Northmore on the wing and Marchant at 13. Whenever
we play Irish, Rona always seems to have an influence on the
game so it makes sense to put the stronger defender up against
him.

Fair point, although Lawday has been excellent in recent times.
Plus Andre at the breakdown is like an extra backrower!!!

J Chis and Allan not listed as unavailable, but not in the 23 is
a surprise for a game like this. Edwards has more than earned
his no2 spot, but still shocked me. Chisholm not involved is the
bigger surprise when an academy lock is at 6 (I have been
impressed with Hammond though). Wev also not on the list, but
his is more understandable

HARLEQUINS’ COACHING GROUP HAVE RUNG THE CHANGES AS THE SIDE
HEAD INTO A SECOND MATCHDAY THIS WEEK
There are 14 changes to the side that faced Sale Sharks in the
Premiership Cup earlier this week, with forward George Hammond
the only man to retain a starting role. Featuring in the second
row against Sale, Hammond shifts to blindside flanker ahead of
Sunday’s London derby.
Amongst the changes, Quins welcome back England quartet Alex
Dombrandt, Joe Marchant, Joe Marler and Marcus Smith following
Six Nations action, with Dombrandt leading the side in Club
Captain Stephan Lewies’ absence this week.
Scotland international Huw Jones makes his first start for the
Club at fullback this week in the absence of injured outside
back Tyrone Green. Jones is joined in the back three by Cadan
Murley and Luke Northmore, with Marchant linking back up with
centre partner Andre Esterhuizen.
Attack and Backs Coach Nick Evans said: “It’s been a good start
to the week, everyone’s excited for Sunday. Having the England
guys come back in gives everyone a bit of a lift, it’s great to
have them back and they’re all chomping at the bit to be back
involved.
“Playing London Irish is always tough. Historically, if you look
at the results over the last few years, they’ve probably beaten
us more than they’ve beaten them, so we are well aware of how
dangerous of a team they are. I think both sides this weekend
play an attacking brand of rugby and we enjoy playing against
those kinds of teams. We’re all looking forward to the
challenge.”

James Chisholm not making the squad is odd if fully fit. Sadly
he and Lewies can't seem to string more than a couple of games
together

Not entirely what I was expecting, but one pleasing thing is
that if it doesn’t quite click we have the quality and
flexibility in the 23 to adjust. And it makes sense that with
five big matches this month we might need to incorporate some
rotation.
I do wonder if Jones makes one of his ‘can’t touch me’ breaks
from Fullback he might be more likely to pick up support runners
quickly enough to really cut up defences.

Wonder if we’ll actually see a fluid interchanging of roles
between Marchant and Northmore?
Or if Marchant has said I’m the England 13 now, over my dead
body are you shifting me to the wing which would be fair.
Big pack and a lot of dangerous runners in the backs.
Hopefully we won’t be outdone in the breakdown. Irish back row
seem more of the powerful carrier mould than blessed with
fetching skills.
