We signed a guy who Bears had dispensed with (Alex Groves) and
played him against Wasps. Turns out he’d already played earlier
in the season for Bears.
We had a very, very slim chance of progressing in the PRC but a
5-point deduction made it impossible.
Stupid admin error that any amateur club should avoid but
largely meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

Both Chis and David head injuries. David’s looked innocuous but
Chis’ was a heavy blow, stretchered off (looked like the knee of
their 5, with something of a follow through about that).
Cleaves is seriously rapid and Anawanyu (sp?) was excellent
before he also limped off. Scrum went well, Jones does seem to
have that sorted, but line out iffy and maul poor, so business
as usual. Defence at 13 and wider was awful. Other than those
mentioned, no other medals to hand out in a very scrappy
performance.

And the perennial question: how did CSW play?

You beat me to it! He was on the pitch for quite a while, so
somebody must have seen enough to form a view.

I thought CSW did pretty well tbh. Some powerful bursts through
the defence and strong in the scrum. Difficult to tell how good
he is against a second string Sale team. Hammond looked very
good again and I would hope a good replacement for Tiz in the
long term.

CSW looked good on the ball but just not mobile enough for the
premiership. Thought we played pretty well and agree totally
with the Cassius comments ... what a star. Roll on sunday now

Stafford had a bit of a torrid time. His worst moment was
dithering at the base of the ruck on our line to be slowly
enveloped by Sale players resulting in a turnover and try. He
was later moved to the wing, and had a difficult time there too.

The defensive system had issues. Sale were getting overlaps at
will which is why the defence out wide struggled. A few too
many handling errors made it difficult to string too much
together.
Overall Sale's back 3 had more pace than ours, Cleaves is fast
but that's not his biggest strength. He's slippery, strong and
hard to put down.
I thought Jurevicius showed up well. Some decent carries and
didn't let much through. WEV busy.
Toughest day at the office? Ross Chisholm. Missed 2 touch
finders from penalties, threw a bad interception and took a
nasty knock. A day he'll want to forget although he might not
have a choice in that.

Hope Ross Chis is ok obviously but he was awful. A timely
reminder of how bad our squad was for so long.
Likewise Stafford really struggled and didn’t look up to it.
I’m guessing that CSW’s issue getting into the squad is
fitness/mobility - he carried well and got a couple of good hits
but lumbered around the field.
Plenty of other positives around the field for the future
however as noted above - Cleaves looks superb.
