Murley - Any idea why he isn't on England Radar

Murley is fast becoming one of my favourite players - just such
high workrate and solid skills. Anyone have an idea why he
isn't on Englands radar? Would seem to be in the mould of Jack
Nowell...

I think you've almost answered your own question there - he's
very similar to Jack Nowell so you don't get anything out of
selecting him that you don't already have from Nowell. Which is
a shame really, Murley is a class player but I don't think he'll
get shot internationally until Nowell is out of the picture,
which might not be until after the world cup.

Murley reminds me more of Tom Williams - a really smart rugby
player who's perhaps lacking the edge in physicality or top end
speed to push him into the frame.
If he continues to score like he is doing, he may make himself
harder to ignore.

I agree with the comparison, which is a huge compliment. But I
think his speed and physicality are deceptive. He hasn't got the
pace of someone like May, but he's still quick.

Murley is a solid dependable player, but I think his lack of a
"box office" swagger/x factor which maybe Louis has, is probably
the reason. That doesn't mean he couldn't do a job at
international level, but there have been plenty of club level
consistent performers over the year who just haven't had that
call. With Nowell around who is probably more comparable than
anyone else, you feel if he was to get a chance it would have to
see Nowell being out the picture first, and even then there's
probably a few others head.

I think Murley said on a podcast that he hadn't heard at all
from Eddie Jones.

Yes but that doesn't mean he's not being monitored. Any decent
national coaching set-up (insert your own joke here) should be
keeping tabs on all players available to them particularly the
up and coming young ones.

I like the Tom Williams comparison above, that's what I feel
when I watch Murley play. Really good player who will challenge
Quins appearance and try scoring records but can't see him in an
England shirt.
Coaches like flashy, pacey wingers and he doesn't fit that mold
although I think he would easily score tries for England because
he's hard to stop and his defence is excellent.
Still, better for Quins but I can see him in a Lions Jersey one
day, as long as that idiot Gatland isn't involved anymore.

Believe he's Germany qualified (born in Paderborn) so he has
options, I guess, should the cold shoulder persist.
