1. Soros Pizza (Wantage) - Pizza dough to toppings ratio is way
too biased towards the dough.
2. Mr Cod Fish & Chips (Reading) - chips greasy/soggy.
3. Kebab van (Dereham) - weak chilli sauce, puts far too much
salad on the kebab
4. Shanghai House (Oxford) - overpriced & the sweet & sour pork
balls are chewy.
Sorry, am I getting the topic right?

Marchant had a really good game. He was limping slightly when he
came off, so I suspect he was substituted for that rather than
tactical reasons.

You'd have to hope that he's nailed on for that 13 shirt now.
Performances under extreme pressure have to count for something.
But that makes Slade a huge question mark.

1) In the article he says that there's no evidence of England
using a new style, which is what I disagree with. The evidence
is to simply watch England during phase play, and pay attention
to the forward pods (numbers and position). By doing that,
you'll quickly see that England don't have a consistent shape
they set into during phase play, with the pods instead being
dictated on the fly. There's plenty of argument to be had over
whether this system is theoretically sound, or if you think EJ
can get it to work by the world cup, but England are using a new
style.
2) I agree that EJ's mind games can be annoying, but I don't
think this was one of those examples. He was asked about what he
thought about the refereeing, and imo his response was honest
and reasonable criticism, which I'm sure will have been brought
up through the proper channels, rather than referee bashing.
It's hardly on the same level as Dean Richards a few weeks ago
saying that Ridley was either incompetent or corrupt!
3) I agree, not every article needs to be to the same extent as
Charlie Morgan. However, I think that maybe giving one example
of when England had slow ball vs quick ball would add a huge
amount to the article, while taking at most maybe 20 minutes. I
will admit my own biases here, I find much of the mainstream
rugby coverage to be quite frustrating largely due to a lack of
detail, so even when they make a good point (like here with
England's ruck speed), they don't usually explain it that well.
4) The problem I have here is probably the overall problem I
have with the article - it's all set up to make you assume that
whatever's being said is the fault of Eddie Jones, rather than
to actually look at the game itself. I mean, just look at the
title - the people who click on that, on average, probably
aren't going to be particularly charitable towards Jones. So
when a question like that is posed, people will immediately
assume the answer is the latter, when in reality it's almost
always the former. International rugby players are all excellent
tacklers - you just can't survive at that level if your tackle
technique is poor. So, if a tackle is missed it's pretty much
always either because the tackle didn't actually need to be
made, or because the attack caused the defender to miss the
tackle.
You raise an interesting point at the end, to which I don't know
the answer. I think that part of it would just be that Ireland
played better in the last 10 minutes than they did in the rest
of the game, which would naturally lead to the subs having more
missed tackles on average than the starters (since the period
where Ireland played well makes up a larger amount of their
total time on the pitch), but of course that begs the question
"why did Ireland play better at the end?". Which, if we knew the
answer to that, this entire conversation would be pointless.

I'm sure you can understand how "there's no consistent shape"
allied to the fact that our attack is not producing many line
breaks, let alone tries, can lead one to draw the conclusion
that there's no clear game plan. You yourself claimed that we
were supposed to be running to a set plan for a couple of phases
at least and then going freestyle, but that doesn't appear to be
the case either.
"Our style is to have no style" seems a bit of a cop-out to me!
Obviously we need to see it actually work before we can judge
whether it's intentional and whether it's worth perservering
with, but after four matches I don't think it's unfair to claim
there's no sign of it.
On point 3 - that's just how sports journalism works. It's very
easy for an article to get bogged down on labouriously detailed
specifics when a simple sentence can cover the same thing,
unless the point of the article is just to explain that one
specific event or tactic. It's already a 1500 word piece.
I don't like Rugbydump much but they do try sometimes, and this
article isn't far off what I'd expect to see in a regular
newspaper. Yes, the headline is a little clickbaity, but I've
seen much worse (hello Ruck!).
As for "international rugby players are all excellent tacklers"
- nah. It's like you never watched Alex Goode :-) Some players
do have poor technique or application but are picked because of
circumstances or because other parts of their game are deemed
more important. Daly has long been a bit of a defensive
liability. I appreciate that yes, the attack does have something
to do with tackles being missed, but I think it's a little
disingenuous to not also recognise that defensive ability -
technique, decision making, positioning, and effort - also have
a role to play. There's a reason why some players just miss a
lot more tackles than others. You won't find Joe Marchant
missing as many as Henry Slade has on regular occasions playing
at 13. Mike Brown made tackles Alex Goode would flap at.
