Yeah it's pretty fair criticism.
I know there are circumstances which have played against England
(of their own making, largely), but worth mentioning is that in
the last 20 mins of each of the three games vs the other home
nations, England have lost that combined hour of rugby 0-44.
So much for finishers, eh?

A major factor in some other games but yesterday none of the
subs did well. Hats off to Daly for missing almost every tackle
he attempted

I can! It's pretty late though, so I might write up a proper
response tomorrow.
The short version is this:
1) There's plenty out there talking about how England's new
attack works, to say that there's no evidence of England using a
new style just means that you aren't paying attention.
2) This is a bit of a nothing point, for two main reasons.
Firstly, actually taking anything EJ says in a press conference
seriously is a bit silly, and secondly, "we have no issues with
the red card, but we'd prefer if we could play advantage off the
scrums" in response to a question about the referee is about as
mild of an answer as you could get, while not dodging the
question.
3) This is potentially the most interesting point, and if he did
actual analysis then he could have talked about what England
were doing when they had fast ruck speed, and what was going
wrong when they had slow ball. This might actually get to the
core of some of the issues England have at the moment, but
doesn't get as many clicks as anti-EJ hot takes, so
unfortunately this is the article we got.
4) Missed tackle stats can be misleading, as you often don't
actually need to make the tackle to shut down a backline move.
To actually get any usable information, you'd have to spend
maybe an hour actually watching the game and looking at the
missed tackles themselves, instead of just the stats. Clearly,
that would be too much work for a journalist who is being paid
to write about rugby.

OK, sure.
1) I know we've talked about this on the other thread, but are
you saying that you're actually seeing that gameplan being
executed on the pitch? I couldn't disagree more. Plus, "a mess
that doesn't create try scoring opportunities" is not a style or
a game plan. And it's very, very clear that it's not worked so
far this 6N.
2) It might not bother you but what Eddie says does actually
annoy people - England fans, other fans, other players,
officials - and his much vaunted "mind games" make him and
England look bad when they backfire, as they so often do. In
this particular case, I wanted a yellow card from the scrums,
but there was realistically one situation where playing
advantage should have happened. England were given a huge amount
at the scrum by the ref. Using it as something to have a whinge
about is crass and fairly obvious deflection from his team's
shortcomings. Agree on not rising to the comment about the red
card, but again he's made a rod for his own back here; everyone
knows he's likely to say something incendiary so they push him.
3) (and a little bit of 4 here) This is not the article to go on
a deep dive about a single aspect of the game. That's not how
sports journalism works, lazy or otherwise. It'd have to be the
subject of an article all on its own to do it justice (see
Charlie Morgan). We'd both love to see it but it's absolutely
fine for an article like this to not be that sort of forensic
essay.
4) Yes, they can be misleading. However, being fair to the
article, they're posing a question there:

which isn't quite in keeping with the other points but is at
least being honest. Personally I'd look at it from another
angle: why were the subs so bad in defence? Marler was 50% which
is a huge surprise. Daly missed 3 from 4, which isn't (taking
Marchant off for him was a huge mistake)

What was Marchant like statistically.
I had a rubbish (but free) seat in the north west corner and had
my view frequently disrupted - but, to me, it looked as though
he was having a storming game.
But, maybe his stats don't back it up.
(also, in my defence, I had been to the Richmond v Hartpury
beforehand and had therefore been on the beer for a good few
hours :-) )

7 tackles made, 1 missed (and several of those tackles were
high-impact)
5 carries for 36 metres
2 turnovers won
One offload, one tackle break
Pretty much everything he did worked, big-time. He had a huge
game in that almost every time he got involved he was very
influential. IMO his best game for England. So of course he was
subbed for Daly.
Not quite Itoje or Genge level, but the next best.
