Kenningham back before Season ends?

“Kenningham has been absent since January and is expected to be
in recovery for months, requiring surgery after a neck injury
against Exeter, a bitter blow given the 22-year-old’s
outstanding debut season guiding his boyhood club to a
Premiership title.
He added: “I’m pretty gutted to be missing out on all of it but
the signs are good so far. I’d love to get back for the end of
the season but that’s up to the professionals so I’ll just focus
on my rehab and make sure I’m in a strong position when I
return.””
Interesting words from Kenningham at the end of the article.
Seemingly rehab is going well and hints at an earlier than
expected return.
With Evans nearly back too think it raises an interesting
discussion on what our best back row looks like when all are
fit.
Intrigued by a back row of Kenningham, Evans, Dommbrandt, but
not sure it is well balanced.
I also think Lawday has overtaken Chisholm with recent
performances… Tough calls to be made!

Personally for me it’s one or the other. Lawday has been a great
consistent performer and I think adds a good option at 6, with
Chisholm the other candidate.

I assume MQ is looking at blindside, for me it is the same at
openside with Evans just shading it but Kenningham snapping at
his heels. The only one without true like-for-like competition
at the moment is Dombrandt IMHO.

I'd rather they take extra care with Jack and he comes back
after a full pre-season rather than trying to rush him back.
I thought the Evans, Dombrandt, Chisholm starting back row we
fielded for the majority of the run in last season was
beautifully balanced. Evans is an out and out jackal though
arguably a touch lightweight, but made up for with Chisholm's
strong carrying/brawn which is a notch above most other
blindsides. If pushed I'd probably still revert to that as our
first choice back row but Kenningham and Lawday have both had
fantastic spells. Lawday's ability to play across the back row
and his athleticism to exploit tiring defences might see him
being the best bench option if all are fit and firing. Great to
have such fierce competition.

All good points. Completely agree that Kenners should be given
the summer to make sure there are no complications.
All the flanker options are quality and it is perhaps down to
form when they are all fit. The returning players may need to
wait. I would be happy with any combination of Chis/Lawday at 6
and Evans/Kenners at 7. They all have played their way into
brilliant purple patches and had difficulties with injuries (an
understatement for poor WEv!)
For me, I think Kenners is the best all round player -
jackaling, line out option, carrying, tackling, pace, hands.
Yeah, he is class!

Also, remember that Chis is more than decent number 8. He was
superb playing there a few seasons back, even outplaying Parisse
in one game. I think he got MOTM. And of course, Junior World
Player of the Year whilst playing number 8.

Yeah, my point was I think Evans and Kenningham would be a
fairly unbalanced backrow and we would lose some grunt.
If I had to pick either, and both were fit and at the top of
their games, it would have to be Evans. Along with Lawday and
Dombrandt is the perfect balance in my view.

I am not sure about that - Kenningham has the skill set to play
6 as well as 7 and hits and carries surprisingly hard. I don't
think a back row with him and Evans would be unbalanced. That
said, I'd probably be inclined to see him as the ideal bench
option with Lawday, Evans and Dombrandt starting.
Still, nice problem to have.

Thought Kenners was exceptional as a jackal not far behind Evans
but much better tackling then Evans, his tackle rate per game
last season was incredible for a newbie
