High Tackles

High tackles are illegal due to the obvious dangers to the head,
however, conversely shouldn't dropping the shoulder and
crouching as you approach being tackled also be illegal?
What kind of game is this turning into?

I'm more concerned about what sort of game you'd like to turn it
into.

With all the concussion/head injuries and the press it gets with
the likes of Steve Thompson it feels refs sometimes are over
compensating and making up for things before that would be
ignored, just because the head is involved. I’m also not
downplaying refs wanting to prevent serious injury, as that is
correct.
Personally I feel the VDW red was harsh as it was a poor tackle
technique, and a yellow would of been more sufficient. I can’t
help but wonder if some players will look to exploit any
potential head contact in an effort to help turn the game in
their favour

It is the poor tackle technique they are trying to remove from
the game. They want people low and that is why if you start low
but the tackled player significantly lowers their height then
you will not be getting a Red card. As in the other day can't
remember which Prem game but the tackler was 90 degrees at the
waist and due to tackled player lowering their height
significantly there was significant head contact, outcome rugby
incident not card at all, if there had not been players very low
then it would have been Red.
How often do we see card for taking he catcher out in the air
these days, not often I would say. When first introduced there
were lots of cards, people have changed how they jump in the
most part. That is what they are trying to achieve in the
tackle, hopefully we get there

When you take contact you have to go in low or you will be held
up and choke tackled. Remove the choke tackle/held up in the
maul rule and there is less reason to bend double into a
collision.

So the tackle on him which he defended by smacking the tackler
in the face with his forearm?

You're more likely to get smashed backwards if you're upright.
