I agree with you both but don't remember everyone being so vocal
about this when Ellis Genge tried to do something similar a
couple of seasons ago.
Also, where was OF crying out about being unfair on his fellow
pros when he was diddling the salary cap? Sorry PF, I get (and
support) your point about better salaries for players who play
an immensely physical game but as TBQ points out , our sport
will never hit those heights and we need to cut our cloth
accordingly.
If restructuring Rugby in this country is only to benefit
premiership players wages then I'm afraid it's already a failure
for me.

In my experience (possibly because he seems to frequently
mention it on the BBC pod), one of the most frequent champions
of higher pay for Prem players is Mr D Care.

Yeah and as I said, I don't disagree with the sentiment but not
to the detriment of the game, regardless of spokesman

Do you think that is true for the players of (for example)
Barrow, Bradford City, Bristol Rovers, Carlisle, Colchester,
Crawley, Exeter, Forest Green Rovers ……… and thousands more?

An average wage in the football league 2 is £114k a year so yes
MadMax, they are paid silly money to kick a ball about.

The money is there. Who do you think should get it? I’d say the
players because without them there’s no entertainment.

And there is the rub. The French Federation gets about £100m for
the TV contract for the domestic game, the Premiership about
£30m.
Either Premiership clubs pay less than French Clubs, or are
supported by Funds generated from International matches, meaning
the union spends less money on developing the game.
And if you do not develop the game, where are the next
generation of players coming from.
Which is more important, giving Joe Marler another £50k a year,
or employing a RDO to go into London schools and find the next
England prop.
There are plenty of people who think the balance is already too
far in favour of the Premiership clubs.
There is a separate issue with how much is spent on
administration within England Rugby. Currently about £50 million
a year.
Obviously, if that could be cut, there would be more money to
spend on rugby,
Some of that is the cost of running Twickenham during Covid -
when it is not generating income.
However, poor decisions and over spend, mean it was struggling
to cover costs in good years.
None of these are easy decisions.

Ah averages. So every player is paid silly money then? And my
thousands of clubs don't end with FL2.
Sorry but your statement was a simply ridiculous generalisation.
Edited information:
I don't know where you got your £114k a year figure from but an
article in the Manchester Evening News refers to a leaked report
which states "In terms of average wages of the highest earning
players across the clubs which responded, players in League One
typically earn £4,753 a week, while this figure drops to £2,191
a week in League Two" so in this case the £114k figure is the
average of the highest earning players at the clubs which
responded which is a very long way from the average wage in the
division.

I wrote and deleted a very long response on this, instead to
write the following.
What sports people earn is too much compared to police, fire
service, armed forces, NHS and anyone willing to give their
lives for others.
It's only a game people, not life and death!

Over a hundred thousand a year for fourth tier football!!!! I
wish I was on that sort of money. Wages tend to be what you can
get from your employer so you can’t blame the players for
getting the most that they can. Rugby is a minority sport so if
clubs like Salarycens skew the wages by cheating it can only
have a knock on effect by increasing wages elsewhere as clubs
struggle to hold on to its top players.
If a lot more people in France pay to watch French rugby
then the pot will be more full than Englands if we don’t pay as
much because the audience is smaller. Supply and demand
economics.
It seems pointless to compare rugby with football as the
audience for football is massive. Look at the total attendance
average for Premiership rugby compared with Premier league
numbers.
