       Good debate this one.
I think there are some good options on here for how to take it
forward but can't see the Scots and welsh voting for relegation.
Even though we were poor last year, the finish in 5th more
regularly than the rest over the 6 Nations so wouldn't want a
shoot out with Italy every season.
I like the idea of whomever the 6th team is, coming from Europe
and not helping the Saffers generate more money, although I
accept they are more time zone aligned to us than the other SH
teams. If, as Fred mentioned (although I have taken your
narrative a few steps further), you could let Georgia or Romania
(or Italy) play all their games at home, they would start to
improve and of course still get to play away at World Cups.
I will just slightly disagree with the player welfare bit as the
clubs don't rest their best players, Andre, Tyrone etc will play
all league games during the 6N and don't miss out on the fallow
weeks. It's about managing your resources effectively. That
said, I think the sentiment is right that players should be
rested and like all others, would prefer the 6N period to not
       have league games.

I think the best option would be a play off between 6th place in
6 nations and 1st place in the European Championship, but as
others have said, Italy is a shareholder in the 6 Nations so
will be a case of everyone agreeing that each is only a member
for as long as they are in the tournament, i guess it is similar
to how the football premier league have their shares.

Up the numbers to 8 teams, 2 pools of 4, 3 group games then
playoffs for winner/places. Still 5 games.

I'd hate to see it split like this. You'd lose some of the most
historic rivalries in the sport (and sport in general).

The thing that we don't want is to have a mini-world cup every
       year.
The world cup is very different from the Six Nations.
The World Cup is prove which team is the best in the world.
The Six Nations is not about being the best. It is more about
winning the competition and the smaller cups - e.g. Calcutta,
       Triple Crown, etc.
The whole "home" or "away" aspect makes the Six Nations unfair
as you may get your easily winnable games at home and get your
difficult games away. This can make it challenging to get bonus
       points, etc.
This whole imbalance or unfairness of the competition is what
       makes it a great competition.
As a competition, I preferred the 5 nations. There were 2 games
on a Saturday and each team had a bye weekend. The bye meant
that there was little need for rest weekends, etc. I find that
the 3 game Super-Saturday is just one game too many.

I agree, but it could be the way that it will go now that CVC
are involved. It's now a product to be sold, and old sporting
rivalries don't necessarily count for much in that world.

I'd say that as far as CVC are concerned sporting rivalries
count for nothing. All that counts is money.

But the rivalry creates excitement which creates interest which
       increases revenue.....

I agree with the option of a play off between bottom of 6
nations and top of Euro Champs. IF - as has happened before-
Italy are not bottom , AND whoever was bottom got relegated,
then the other home nations could play that team in the Autumn
       Internationals, thereby preserving the revenue.
