Seems like a bad time to do it as they are unearthing some good
players and their u20s are pretty strong

They played v Ireland with 13 men? Their U20s beat England. If
we do there is no one else so back to 5 nations and loss of
revenue so I can’t see it happening.

No one else are you mad? Georgia and South Africa would bite
their hand off to be included

I think it would be harsh to get rid of them. The teams that
could replace them, in my view would struggle massively and
probably struggle to beat Italy. (Georgia/Romania etc).
It’s a nice away trip, and if anything it’s a handy match to
have to experiment with players

I don't think that anyone can "kick them out" - the set up of
the six nations is that Italy would have to agree to leave,
which I can't see them doing.

For me to include SA is a no as it would almost certainly be the
start of a global international league over time. But the idea
of a promotion/relegation game against the highest placed team
from the tier two does bear thinking about. Similarly, if the
expected ringfencing of the Premiership occurs a similar match
should also happen if the highest placed Championship side wants
promotion.

Some historical comparisons may be appropriate. When the Home
Nations became the Five Nations, it took France 10 years to win
their first game. It took them 17 years to get their first win
over England and 18 years to beat Wales.

FF, you must have been looking at this at the same time as I
was. France joined the 5 Nations tournament in 1910. They
managed to beat Scotland 16-15 in Paris in 1911, but did not get
another win until 1927 against England, the next in 1928 against
Wales.
Give Italy some time to settle in?

I don’t think rugby gets any stronger by kicking them out
however I do believe if relegation was a viable option then we
should introduce that. I 5 seasons where they didn’t finish
bottom another Tier 1 side would have been relegated.
