Since it’s well beyond the point of statistical significance
that everything Stephen Jones utters is utter tosh, surely
Lawrie should just have thanked him for offering irrefutable
support to the research?

I’ve clearly missed something here, but what is the research
that’s causing such a furore?

They are generally pretty negative towards Quins. Or, if we win
(the league), not particularly effusive in their credit. They
are entitled to their opinions. They love the game and love
Sale, Exeter, Sale, Wasps, Sale and Worcester.
I generally enjoy their chat about the various games and can
appreciate their enthusiasm for the game. On this occasion,
though, it turned my stomach. JB went to great lengths to trash
the research. Okay, I get his point that research can be
engineered to prove the desired conclusion. I suppose you have
to decide if you believe the data or not.
However, the whole point about the day was to promote diversity
and inclusion and demonstrate what a welcome environment rugby
is. I am immensely proud of the club for doing so. I run an
LGBTQ+ group at my school to try and support students who
struggle with the overt and subtle prejudices of society. When I
tell them what Quins do they are so impressed. Because no one
else does anything! (That I know of).
Well done Quins. I am so proud of you being more than a rugby
club.

Thanks for sharing. I genuinely have no idea why it’s so
objectionable.
From a purely anecdotal POV, I have played touch rugby with a
number of women who are put off playing full contact rugby for
some of these reasons (and that’s a cross section of straight,
some openly gay and some I don’t know and didn’t feel the need
to ask).
If our research challenges discriminatory behaviour it should be
supported not dismissed.

To be a little bit critical, in my opinion.
There is nothing wrong with the study.
However, the post from Quins could be framed a little bit
differently.
It just says - These are all the things wrong, etc
It is missing the last paragraph that would say
"And this is what we are going to do about it"
"This is what we are going to help to fix"
"These are our targets", etc
The above is discussed - but it waffles a bit.
And lastly, there should be details of support agencies, etc.
In my opinion, having the Pride match, etc gives such a positive
message.
I think we should follow this up with a "Women in Rugby" event
where we focus on women in rugby.
E.g. 1/2 time games on the pitch by girls teams. Activities that
are all targeted at women. Sara Cox as ref, Women as announcers
and ask BT to supply an female comms team, an all girl band in
the bar afterwards, etc, etc.
International women's day is in March - It is probably a bit
late for 2022 - but, would be nice to think about targeting it
for 2023

To be honest, if I were the author of the research I would be
more than a little miffed by JB (who he?)'s comments which were
borderline libellous.

As one of the few women on here regularly I absolutely do not
want female announcers. Our voices are mostly far too high
pitched for this role. It is also a problem with female
commentators particularly the ones who never stop talking and
don’t seem to understand less is more. The latter applies to
cricket as well.

Eggchasers is a great listen - if you don't like opinions don't
listen to it.
They can be negative about every club and give credit to clubs
when it's due. It's not a Quins love in but they defo give us a
huge amount of credit when they think it's due. I'd also say
Bath gets the most negative press but then you can see why.
As with all podcasts they have opinions and some of them I agree
with, and some of them don't. I'll keep listening though because
I appreciate we are lucky to live in a country where you can
express your opinions.

Don't disagree with that. I don't think anyone is suggesting we
shouldn't listen to the podcast. I agree, it's almost always a
good listen. '
