Many wise words from Nigel Owens

makes the difference, the people who make the difference are
bystanders, those who are in the stadium who hear unacceptable
abuse being shouted, turn round and tell those people it is not
acceptable.

> That’s what happened at Twickenham. I didn’t hear it, the
people sitting around it did and it was reported and dealt with
well.
>
> It’s important that everybody plays a part in this and stand
up and say it’s not acceptable

something funny at Nigel Owens. It just mustn't be homophobic or
racist.

> You shouldn’t be afraid of having banter with the referee, but
you shouldn’t shout something that is abusive and crosses the
line of acceptable humour, or the abuse becomes aggressive and
personal.

Last season I remember Roy Maybank was running the line, and I
remember in the West Stand we were getting slightly "restive"
over what we deemed was him just ignoring obvious off sides!
There was a man with a hi-viz vest with "MEDIC" written on it,
and as he passed I shouted "Oi, Medic! If you see the assistant
referee, can you check his eyes?". Roy Maybank ran off laughing!

Always remember Steve Lander V sign rub of his head when he was
being barracked with the chant the referees a Lander.....my wife
still can’t forget his decision that gifted Falcons the cup all
those years ago

Aaaargh!!! I had forgotten that. Still he was man enough to
admit later that he had made a mistake.

There were several occasions from the east stand where we were
"assisting" the assistant ref...he did put his hand to his ear
to indicate that he had heard us, but it didn't seem to make any
difference to his interpretation of a slipped bind at the scrum!

I was at the Millennium Stadium a few years ago at a time when
the pitch was in a terrible state. Alain Rolland was the ref and
after one particularly bad scrum had thrown up huge divots he
decided to stamp them down quite forcibly. A Welsh "wag"
alongside me shouted out … "be careful Rolland … that's where we
buried the last ref !"

Funny how it still irks after all this time.

Easy enough to sort out if anybody has the nerve to do it;
slowly work your way around the protesters giving each one a
yellow card until they stop, if they don`t then the the second
time of showing the yellow cards will obviously lead to a red.
On another point, why oh why do they not stop the clock during
these breaks in play to get around the arguments in almost every
game over the amount of added time. Seems to me that the
Football Associations are not interested in trying anything from
outside of the sport.
