Medical Joker

I thought that topic this was worthy of its own thread.
Bringing in a Medical Joker has been mentioned a few times by
MaidstoneQuin and a few others.
But, what are the competition rules for doing this?
I thought that it had to be:
1. for someone who is long term injured
2. has to be someone of similar experience or less
So, I think that the only two players that we can bring a joker
in for are Kenners and Wev.
Kenners
Kenners is on an academy contract. So, I don't think that we
could really bring in anybody to replace him. It would have to
be someone from another teams academy.
I'm not sure who is available - or whether there would really be
any point in doing this.
WeV
WeV doesn't have any international experience. So, we couldn't
bring in anyone who is capped.
He has made 37 appearances for us. So, it would need to be
either a journeyman from a Premiership team that wasn't getting
any game time or someone from a Championship team.
I don''t know of any back rowers in the Premiership that are
available? But - does anyone else know?
I am not sure that there are many players in the Championship
who would be a good option.
The problem with the Championship is that the top few teams are
very close together on points and are really fighting to win the
league. So, I don't think that you could get anyone good from
Donny, Ealing or Pirates.
Mark Bright at Richmond is probably the highest try scorer in
the league. He could probably do the job - but, he is getting on
a bit (43 years old).
Otherwise, you would probably end up with a squad filler from
one of the teams. And, I am not sure what the benefit would be.
I haven't seen enough National 1 games this season to know if
there is anyone in this league worth going for.

Your summary sounds correct, but that is only relevant if
bringing someone in using the injured player credit.
If we are not spending up to the cap, then I'd expect you could
sign anyone as long you don’t ho over the cap.

Painful though the next few weeks are likely to be, if we can
somehow put out a back row from the present squad using Academy
players if necessary, we may benefit long term. For example, I'd
be interested to see how Trenholm copes with Premiership
opponents - he looked promising in pre season v Cardiff (?). I'd
rather that than sign a journeyman from elsewhere.

That is my thinking too. I would rather use and develop an
academy player than another teams bench warmer.
It is better in the long term. But, also, probably better in the
short team as the academy player is probably familiar with the
plays that the squad practices week in and week out.

Besides Will Trenholm, I think that we also have Makeen Alikhan
in the academy (who I think is a #8).
I am not sure how close he is to being able to play. I think he
was 2 appearances in the Prem Cup

I thought Matas played well until he came off. Lively, athletic
and pretty physical too.

Even if he rules were different, it’s not like there is a
plethora of good, available players out there.
Olly Robinson could have been a good pick up, but I’m not sure
he’s actually that much better than Wallace. I’d have been
favour of brining him in simply as an extra experienced player
in the back row, but that’s the kind of shop window we’re
looking at.

Was Will Trenholm on the most recent unavailable list? He looks
ready to have a crack at this level.

Trenholm was with the England 7’s team along with Hyde for a
couple weeks. His breakdown work stood out but I guess that’s to
be expected when playing a back-row player in the 7s format. I
think comparisons between him and Clifford, at least in the
physical sense, are pretty fair which is incredibly exciting.
Also should mention that Hyde played really well. He must be
6’3/6’4 so his physicality was good but I was really impressed
by some of his running lines and ball-handling.
