The optimist in me hopes it's either or both of his fitness
being tested after a long lay-off (better than putting him on
late in the game to find he's not up to speed or worse still
picks up another knock), and bringing him off having seen that
he's played a half hour unscathed, but the overall comparitive
weakness of the pack was showing that he's not 100% yet and to
continue would risk putting his repaired leg under extreme
pressure.

Hard to disagree with that!

our 3rd string pack against Saddies first string of
internationals, come on get a grip, hard for any team to be
fully competitive under those circumstances, this is a crazy
thread.

Wasn’t really a third string though was it? I agree let’s not
get too carried away and some of the comment on here a
laughable but the way we were owned in the scrum was alarming!
We started with 2 internationals and our 1st choice hooker up
front and a big competitive 2nd row, back row was considerably
weaker. I’m sure the players and bomb won’t be quick to find
excuses but that scrummage machine will get a dusting off.

They turned JGB inside out in the first scrum, and beat us up on
another occasion. But we've been doing that to sides all season.
We have one fit available LH. The scrum was an issue because SGB
isn't very good. I'm not sure why we renewed his contract. Apart
from that it was fine, against probably be best pack in the
competition, with several players missing. Lewies may be back
but he's nowhere near match fit.

I know that Wilco is good.
However, he was returning from a long term injury.
And, he wasn't sure to start
In this case, he was 3rd string

I didn’t see the whole game but I saw the last scrum and it
looked like they got an early shove on. I’m no expert on
scrummaging but if they were getting away with stuff they did it
well. A prop I once spoke to said that you shouldn’t under
estimate what a difference the flanker can make which is where
we’re short. Our scrum has been pretty good so far whoever has
been front row until now when our back row is depleted. I’m sure
those of you who know better can put me right on that theory.
