Who's our best premiership fly half season to date?
DIR By: SwindonQuin

Got a bit bored tonight watching Leicester Vs Saints and
wondered who our best 'premeirship' starting fly half is, it's
supprising I think.
Smith, starts 6, wins 4 = 67% win rate
Allen, starts 6, wins 2 = 33% win rate
Edwards, starts 2, wins 2 = 100% win rate
The question, should Allen have the starting number 10 shirt, or
should Edwards be given the chance (when fit) when Smith is away
or injured?

When we signed Allen I thought he was a really good No.2 to
Marcus but I've been disappointed by what I've seen so far.
Injuries aside, his game management isn't great and he struggles
to launch Andre the way Marcus does. His place kicking is also
erratic - not sure what the success % is but I suspect it's
quite low and has ost us a couple of games. I thought Edwards
acquitted himself really well in Big Game under huge pressure
and I'd like to see him get a start in Marcus absence

I really like Edwards and I agree that if he got more starts
he’d be above Allen in the pecking order. I wonder if there is
something contractual that keeps Allen ahead?
I.e he won’t play internationals if he is the immediate back up
to Smith and starts X amount of games.

Yeah get rid of Allan and keep Edward’s and we’d save ourselves
a fortune too!

I think we have to take into account that the 2 games he 'won'
were at the start of the season before his concussions so
wondering if he is still struggling with that mindset?

Tommy is OK. Nothing flash but nothing mercurial to win you a
game, and in his showings so far that’s pretty much true.
Edwards gets more out the backs, but that’s as I guess with a
pack that wasn’t below premiership standard.

A bit unfair on TA. He was decent enough at the start of the
season.

I’m confused by this thread. Are we using convenient stats to
create a narrative that Edwards is our best 10?
Allan (please can we get the man’s name right) has 6 starts, but
nowhere near 80mins for at least three of those (I’m think the
first concussion, the Koch cheap shot and the shoulder injury).
A little unfair to judge him on those games. He started really
well IMO, but hasn’t quite been at the races since his injury
return. However, I think it’s fair to say that the whole team
(and in particular the pack) has been second best in the last
few - Bath and Sale spring to mind - which isn’t exactly helpful
for a 10.
I really like what Edwards brings and while I think he’s a very
good 3rd choice, at the same time, I don’t really regard him as
a proper 10. When he plays, DC manages the game and Edwards just
plays off the cuff which suits his 7s skill set. That can be
good in the right game, but would I want him starting at 10 in a
crunch game, personally - no.

I fear you are grossly overthinking this QC!

Updated:
Smith, starts 6, wins 4 = 67% win rate
Allan, starts 7, wins 2 = 29% win rate
Edwards, starts 3, wins 3 = 100% win rate
Just saying........ And no, I'm not saying Edwards is better
than Smith, but better or more suited to the Harlequins way than
Allan.
Oh, but please no 'Allan is a seasoned international ' yes he
is, but with a very poor team about to be ejected from the 6
Nations if the reports are true.
