What was LCD thinking if he had taken it would have been a
penalty for taken in the air.
I'd start Ford and bring on Smith rather than the other way
round we know he can turn a game around and Ford has dependable
form at international level but Marcus can change a game. Also
play Marchant at 13 instead of Daly who I'm not sure got
mentioned once in commentary rather than on the ignored wing.
FFS replace Youngs with anyone else who isn't slow and can think
for themselves and not just aimlessly kick.
Apart from that it was actually a decent game of rugby to watch.
Far better than the dross last year. Apart from the stupidity of
it I'm not actually that upset about the loss (apart from the
obvious glee from the BBC commentary team (Is Nige a clone of
Jiffy?))

For all England's possession they didn't stress the Scotland
defence. Youngs and Daly kicking the ball away too soon too
often in promising attacking areas. We also looked a little
short on real carriers I thought.

Also, why was Ford taking those kicks on the right? Slade had
been getting distance on kicks favouring a left footer all
afternoon so why on Earth switch over? That cost England
significant yards.

Marchant was also absent.
Pack did OK. Itoje is either excellent or poor, and today he was
poor. He always has a few penalties in him.
9. Randall
10 Smith
11 Malins
12 Slade
13 Marchant
14 Nowell
15 Steward
If that’s not the back line for Italy then it can only be
assumed EJ is on a self sabotage mission.
These players he likes to keep for their experience? What is
that exactly? Youngs showing how not to play, and Ford coming on
to use his experience where his only real input was to do a
poor kick. Amazing management.

Marcus seemed to be being held back from anything too creative,
reduced to short pop passes. Made some good territorial kicks
and one cross field that didn’t quite work. I think the
conditions were worse than it looked on TV. Dickie could have
made it less obvious but it’s unusual to find a hooker in that
situation. We didn’t take enough points from good positions and
Scotland took their chances better than we did. Commentators
saying that the ref won’t give a penalty at the scrum at the end
but would at another time in the game. Strange. Why would that
be.

I can't think of many front-rowers who'd be all calm and
collected in that situation. England's defence being immediately
panicked straight from the scrum - called by the commentators
before the ball was even out - was the real cause of that.
Eddie Jones loves sending England away from home to kick the
ball away, only now he makes sure our entire backline does it
even when we've made space for an attack. Dismal.

Marcus made a couple of errors. Penalty kicked dead and poorly
executed cross field kick with advantage. Think we scored 3
points more or less immediately after both. So disappointing but
not a massive loss
Youngs as dreadful as usual
Itoje poor
Marchant pretty anonymous and will be disappointed with their
first try
Daly anonymous too
Panic stations when we had no hooker and Joe threw in. Why not
bring George on. Were we not allowed?
Standard stuff under Jones - unadventurous and kicking
everything away.
Ref massively bottled it at the end but we didn't deserve to win
anyway
