LENNOX ANYANWU RE-SIGNS
Thursday, 3rd February 2022 @ 10:00

HARLEQUINS ACADEMY PLAYER LENNOX ANYANWU IS THE LATEST PLAYER TO
RECOMMIT TO THE CLUB
The 21-year-old centre is the fifth Academy man to sign a new
deal with the Club this year, remaining with the Club he joined
as a 12-year-old.
Making his senior debut in the Famous Quarters against Bristol
Bears in the Gallagher Premiership on Boxing Day during the
2020/21 season, Anyanwu has since earned two further
appearances, playing against Saracens and Northampton Saints in
the Premiership Cup earlier this campaign.
One of Quins’ standout performers in the Premiership Cup so far
this year, Anyanwu claimed his first points for the Club in the
competition against Northampton Saints at The Stoop in late
2021, scoring two tries in the exciting 26-25 victory.
Thrilled to re-sign, Anyanwu said: “This is a team that’s making
a big impact in the rugby world. Harlequins’ style and brand of
rugby is famous, and we have built a culture here that is a
genuine pleasure to be part of.
“Some of the best centres in the world are in this team and I
want to continue to learn from guys like Andre Esterhuizen and
Joe Marchant. It’s a golden opportunity for a young centre like
me to learn and continue to develop.”
“I’ve been with Harlequins for nearly ten years now, having
first joined as a 12-year-old. I’m delighted to extend my time
here.”
Commenting, Senior Coach Tabai Matson said: “It’s great to have
Lenny sign back on with the Club. He is a highly motivated young
guy and showed during our Premiership Cup fixtures earlier this
season that he has a wide skill set as a centre.
“He’s part of a very strong stable of midfielders at Quins so
his signing shows the love there is for the environment here,
but also the desire to fight for a starting position. It will be
great to watch Lennox as he continues to develop as a player
around those guys.
“We’re delighted to have seen so many of our Academy cohort
re-sign recently. Lennox is just one of a host of guys that have
heaps of potential and we’re looking forward to seeing them all
continue their growth as they fight for spots in the senior
team.”

If we are now doing the academy re-signings, I suspect that next
up will be these three
Will Hobson
Matas Jurevicius
Jamie Benson

Think this could prove to be a big re-signing. I don't think it
will be long before it's Andre vs Lennox for the 12 shirt, which
sits nicely alongside the Joe vs Luke battle we already have at
13. Not many clubs can boast those kind of options.

If it's still an Academy contract it may be limited to being
quite short as he'll need to move up to the senior squad before
too long. Not quite sure how the rules work in terms of
"graduating" these days.

Maybe Quins see him being on more than £50,000 pretty sharpish

LEWIS GJALTEMA RE-SIGNS
Thursday, 3rd February 2022 @ 14:00
HARLEQUINS IS DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT SCRUM-HALF LEWIS
GJALTEMA HAS SIGNED A NEW DEAL WITH THE CLUB
Gjaltema, 24, re-signs with the team having arrived in South
West London ahead of the 2020/21 season from North Harbour in
New Zealand.
The halfback’s first taste of Northern Hemisphere rugby came
late last year as he debuted in the Quarters in November’s
Premiership Cup fixture away to London rivals Saracens. Gjaltema
has since gone on to earn further competition debuts, featuring
in both the Gallagher Premiership and Heineken Champions Cup.
Commenting on his new deal, Gjaltema said: “I’m really pleased
to be able to sign a new deal with Quins. This is a team that do
things a little bit differently to most and have proven that the
Harlequins Way of doing things works.
“I want to continue to be a part of that and contribute to where
this team is going. We play some of the most attractive rugby
out there and I think every player wants to be part of a team
that plays the way we do.”
Skills and Kicking Coach Charlie Mulchrone said: “Lewis has been
a great addition to the team since joining from New Zealand last
summer.
“It’s been excellent to see Lewis come in and embrace our way of
playing and experience both the Premiership and Champions Cup.
He’s slotted in within the group brilliantly and we’re delighted
he’s signed to stay at The Stoop.”
