Must admit, I'd expected that he might be one of the ones to
move on. But he's been much better in the scrum this season. If
he's good enough for Bomb, he's good enough for me.

That's what puzzles me. It's only this season that he's been
average, his contract season, by pure co-incidence. Prior to
that, he's been utterly dreadful

He may have been carrying an injury. Collier struggled prior to
this season and half of last, too, and that seems to have been a
long term injury that finally healed. We don't know what players
are going through, but the coaches do.

One thing I was very impressed with Santi recently - I think it
was the Castres home game, Gjaltema took a knock and stayed down
for a few phases, and Santi made the next few rucks to play 9 at
all of them. Really good awareness and initiative from him

There's quite a difference though, Collier had points in the
bank, Botta hadn't and had been poor from joining us but
suddenly, in his contract season, gets way better to the point
of average

See contract season comment above.
You might not have picked up on the subtlety of my posting but
the truth of it is, I really don't rate or like him and am
surprised to say the least that we've signed him for another
(assumed) 3 years!
As everyone else points out though, the coaches have forgotten
more about rugby than I'll ever know so we have to trust their
judgement.
And I'll remind them that we're all only human ;)

Not particularly excited by this but also not overly
disappointed either.
Yes he hasn't been great but as mentioned he has looked better
this season.
We also need to take into account the reduced salary cap next
season, do you stick with what you have taking into account the
props currently behind SGB or go for someone else which may cost
more (may also cost less)

I'd say he's been better than average. But two points spring to
mind: firstly, if a pack performs well as a whole, then all of
the players look good; conversely, if a pack as a whole is
performing badly, then even the best individuals look poor.
Secondly, I seem t recall John Afoa (I think) saying that it
took him a couple of seasons to find his feet in the Prem, in an
entirely new pack. After that, he didn't do too badly. But I
wonder how many fans were questioning whether he was just there
for an easy pre-retirment payday.
