GARCIA BOTTA SIGNS NEW LONG-TERM DEAL

THE CLUB IS THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE THAT ARGENTINIAN INTERNATIONAL
PROP SANTIAGO GARCIA BOTTA HAS SIGNED A NEW LONG-TERM DEAL WITH
THE LONDON CLUB
The Argentinian loosehead is the latest of a host of names to
re-sign with Harlequins.
Joining ahead of the 2019/20 season from Super Rugby side the
Jaguares, the 29-year-old is just three matches short of his
half-century of appearances for the Club.
A powerful prop with a tireless work rate, Garcia Botta joined
Harlequins for his second stint in the Northern Hemisphere
having spent a season with Paris side Stade Francais ahead of
the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
A key player in the Club’s success over the last 12 months, the
Argentinian has helped the side instil the Harlequins Way of
playing in delivering the 2020/21 Gallagher Premiership title.
Commenting on his new Quins deal, Garcia Botta said: “I’m very
happy to re-sign again with Harlequins. I’ve spent three seasons
in London now and have enjoyed every moment. I’m honoured to
have been part of a team that turned their season around and
went all the way to winning a title last year.
“We have a great group that plays some incredible rugby. It’s an
enjoyable place to be and I’m looking forward to making more
memories and working for more silverware doing what we do.”
Commenting, Scrum Coach Adam Jones said: “Santi is a top-class
prop who has been great for us since arriving three years ago.
He’s a consistent performer that will work until he drops. He
was vital to our Prem win last season.
“We’re chuffed that he’s chosen to re-sign with the Club and
continue his key role within our ambitions as a team.”

Happy with this. He's had a strong season so far, and I don't
think that's just a pre-contract uplift. He's looked really
happy in some of our last minute wins of late.

Squad list updated.
That looks as though all players on 2019 contracts have now been
renewed.

A useful re-signing - Has improved massively this season and can
be a pretty good squad player and I can't imagine he would be on
too much

Hmmm... I can only see this in terms of giving Fin Baxter and
Will Hobson time to develop. I doubt we'll see any recruitment
at LH then. Let's hope Els can get some fitness going and
compete for a regular place in matchday squads, as I'm still
nervous every time SGB steps onto the field. He's improved for
sure, but he's still a bit of a chink in the armour when he does
play.

I'm really surprised by this. Although he's been a lot better
this season, that doesn't mean he is any good IMHO. I'm sure we
could do better than him

I thought this too - his reaction at the end of the Castres game
was great!

Still a bit of a mixed bag for me. He has definitely improved
this season but he is a big step down from Marler

Cant imagine too many players will queue up to be a bench option
behind Marler though

He's been a lot better the last season, not so many scrum
penalties so will trust the coaching team's choice happy with
the signing
