As much as Foley was appalling again, and so were Quins for the
most part, we only lost by 4 points and Allan missed 4 points
from the tee, David dropped the ball over the try line, and
Green threw the ball into touch when we had a 3 on 1 again.
Score any of those and we don’t lose. Ben Botica levels of
butchery

We’re getting out the point where after every game (win or
lose), we’ve got a whole thread on the ref! Foley was rubbish
last night and almost always is, but we need to look at
ourselves first.
When I compare last season to this, the biggest differences seem
to be in cohesion and attitude.
Out title winning run was built on a combination of team spirit
and looking like everyone was on the same page. We’ve only seen
that in flashes this season (2nd half against Bristol and the
Big Game stand out).
Having periods where we have missed our key players obviously
hasn’t helped, but ultimately that’s the price of success and
every top team will be feeling the absences over the next few
weeks.
For one reason or another, we probably know what the 23 is going
to look for the next few weeks. Yes, we’re weakened, but there’s
still a very decent set of players there. This group needs to
hunker down, get themselves on the same page and switch-on. We
really need someone (or ideally a fit Lewies) to really step up
and act as the on-field leader and we need to stop being so
flipping casual. We just look a bit rudderless and without
wanting to be harsh, it wasn’t that much better before the
England players left for the 6N camp.

We need to get the backs more involved. I’ve not been only
impressed with Allan (surprise) and would actually prefer
Edwards to start.

I thought on field leadership was non existent and whoever was
captain needs to understand what they need to do as captain. And
coaches need to look at what they need to do in this
respect. This was about their failure as well.
Spencer’s box kicking was superb.Youngs and Care need to
understand the correct length and the team to understand about
vigorous follow up.
Forget last season this is now.And there is much to improve.

Apart from missing a couple of kicks, Allan has been good or at
least fairly good.
I’m finding it hard to blame the backs last night when we only
had 30% possession.
Edwards is definitely not the answer. I like him as a player but
I think you’re significantly overrating him and underrating
Allan.

Frustrating performance and loss. Hard to blame the ref for
this one although fair to say that if we got the rub of the
green last week, the fates paid us back this week

Had all the markings of a trap game and that’s what it turned
into. Only 7/23 of those involved in the final played last
night; materially not the same team. A lot of big names missing,
especially in the pack where we were down: Marler, Louw, Lewies,
Lawday, Chisholm, Kenningham, Dombrandt and then lost Collier
and Lamb during the game. That said, they had injuries too, and
other guys have to step up. The lack of leadership was a
concern. I like Wacker, but not as skipper; we miss
Lewies/Dombrandt/Marler’s leadership when they aren’t there.
That was a limited Bath team that played very well, had a plan,
stuck to it and gave us a hard time. Conditions made the aerial
route viable, and they executed on it well. Well done to them.
Was a similar blueprint to the way Sale played us, basically
denying us the ball. With this team, the opponent scoring 21
means we usually win, but they just didn’t let us have it.
As others have said, the signs have been there for a while that
all is not well and eventually the cheque bounced. Losing
Collier and Lamb early was big. Those two stay on, and we
probably win the game, despite everything. Those on here blaming
the backs need a head check; you can’t do anything without the
ball, and Bath did a job on us to ensure that that didn’t
happen.
That said, while Green is often brilliant, but it’s apparent
that he is a hard ground specialist who is seeing English winter
rugby for the first time (Debut late Feb 2021) who is probably
best off deputising for a couple of weeks. Give
David/Lynagh/Murley a go for a few weeks.
The bigger concern is the pack. We need to find some back rowers
from somewhere as we are now down to two fit senior backrowers
(White and Wallace) given that Taulani (who is still waiting for
things to slow down for him) limped off last night, as did Lamb.
Going to be very thin there. Time to dip into the academy again
(worked well enough with Kenningham last year) and give the
youth a chance.
We can’t blame Foley, I don’t think. He isn’t a great ref, who
is overzealous on releasing/rolling at ruck time and coaches too
much on the field to overcorrect (the example with Hughes having
his hands on it is something other refs would ping, and he did
the same with Kerrod at another time too).
Anyway, we didn't get nothing (and are let to lose by less than
7 all year) but honestly, the next few weeks might see that
change unless we get some bodies back.

Interesting point re. Green. You might be right, but I’d argue
that while conditions might have played a part in his high ball
woes, but didn’t cause him to butcher that 3 on 2 or lose his
ability to tackle.
I do really rate him, but at some point his poor form needs to
have a consequence. It must be about 6 poor games on the spin
now and with David impressing, I’d like to see him switch to 15
with Lynagh coming back on the wing vs. Sale. We all know what
he is capable of and I’m sure he’ll get back to his best, but
right now it’s not fair on others to keep picking him when he’s
so out of form.
Hopefully none of the injuries picked up last night are
significant as we’re really down to the bare bones. Trenholm is
probably the most likely academy player to step in, but I’m not
sure when he’s back from the England 7s squad.

I was out in London yesterday with some mates, so didn't see the
game in full.
I've watched the highlights are on YouTube and Nick David looks
excellent on the wing.
I would drop Green at Fullback and start Louis Lynagh there. It
is a position he has played all the way through his development.
Onwards and upwards. Looks like the six nations period of games
is going to be a challenge to keep up the momentum.

We have been butchering chances for a while now. I didn't think
we deserved the win against Castre, we were lucky IMO.
But against Bath, once again we had several chances but did not
execute. How we failed to get points out of some of these
episodes is almost unbelievable. The scrum fiasco in the first
half was bewildering. How could we not score any points during
that episode? And some of the decision making was hard to
understand.
I can't see why Tyrone is no longer able to pass reliably; how
can this simply be about him needing a rest? What, does his arm
ache or something?
