Automatic BP Wins

I realise that many (especially other fans) may think this is
gripe following sour grapes for dessert, but is the award of a
BP win in event of COVID no-show the right “award”?
I can see that a win (4pts) is correct, but why should the team
not at fault win with auto BP or indeed be awarded 28-0
scoreline? You have to “score” 4 tries for a BP, surely? 4pts
and a 0-0 score would be better; winning team has advantage of
not having to scrap for win (with injury worries removed) and
the get another break from hectic schedules.
I’ll counter the sour grapes by adding that finishing second
still awards us with home 2nd leg and promise, should we win
last of 16 games, with home QF: the only difference is the oppo:
Sale, Glasgow or Clermont are no mugs and I don’t think it
matters which team Quins may end up playing…

Had the same discussion with friends in the bar after the game
and pretty much agreed with everything you've said. Only
difference was we thought maybe a 14-0 or 21-0 scoreline would
be reasonable for goal difference. Definitely agree a 28-0
margin seems too generous. Giving teams the bonus point in
current format also means you could pretty much qualify before
Christmas without playing a game!

My annoyance is tempered somewhat by the nature of our victory
yesterday, but if we had won it fair and square I'd be
absolutely steaming. 28 points difference is a wholly
unrealistic scoreline and makes a mockery of the competition.

I don't mind the BP win - but pts - which effect pt's difference
should NOT be not be added.
Especially when they impact the league places....

A 28-19 (I.e. the minimum points difference to unambiguously
give a 5-0 points distribution) score would be more
representative

They could award a 20-0 win. Which could still be a try bonus
point win without the conversions!

They could, but it’s still an unrealistically large winning
margin. Which is ok if a club scratches under normal
circumstances, but when any club can be forced to drop a fixture
for a clutch of positive tests, it does make things a bit of a
lottery

awarding 28 points is not realistic, not many games of rugby
ever get to that sort of points difference win. I think a 5
bonus point win is ok because there is a reasonable chance any
team could have got a BP so you dont want to cap that extra
potential point, but I'd have said a win by something like 14-0
would have been a fairer representation. No sour grapes here, we
got through that last win by the skin of our teeth and a couple
of poor calls from the officials, should have been a loss so
would have been second anyway but 28-0 is just plain stupid.

My worry is what might happen across the two legs in the last
16.
As we’ve all already highlighted, winning by 28pt margins in
these games is unlikely but if they still use this and any team
has a COVID cancellation, it would make it virtually impossible
for the ‘losing’ team to qualify. Surely they will change the
rules?

That's a very good point. Do they award the fixture without
playing the second leg? Or come up with a different scoring
system
