Based on last night’s evidence I think he’ll struggle. I hope
I’m wrong but he looked overawed in a group stage European cup
match and I hate to think what the pressure of an intense test
match at Twickenham is like by comparison. After last year’s
shambles in Cardiff that game needed a steady hand not a
relative novice by international standards.
Mike Adamson of Scotland is the only
other referee to have two matches, officiating France v Scotland
in Round 1 before also being on the whistle for England v Wales
at Twickenham in Round 3.
Oh joy. England v Wales with a dodgy ref, because that always
goes so well. We had Gauzere’s appalling effort last year, and
in 2012 and 2013 that two years on the trot of Steve Effing
Walsh. [1]
And how does a Scot get to ref a Scotland game? I thought refs
were supposed to be neutral these days.
[1] For many years Poorfour Jr insisted that I was the second
worst referee in the world, allowing only that Steve Walsh was
worse.

Think the text is wrong. He’s down to do France v Italy.

Oddly, I always thought Walsh communicated well with the
players.
Besides, have you forgotten Steve Lander?

Let’s hope his performances are less error strewn than the
announcement

Actually, having watched the replay (I presume so many matches
have been cancelled that they just decided to re show ours),
Adamson was far better than he looked in the ground. His hand
signals are wayward, but when you can hear what he’s saying, his
calls are pretty well justified- including the ones against
Quins and the controversial ones at the end.
The non-turnover for Castres was spot on in my mind - the player
falls over as he makes the lift, ergo he couldn’t be supporting
his weight.
The key is to learn to tune out anything that Austin Healey says
about, well, anything but especially refereeing decisions, and
listen to what the ref actually says, which is usually about
something other than what Austin thinks it is.

He tugs at the ball for some time, then grabs it, then falls
over. Probably should've been a penalty.
However, after he falls over he is then swarmed by Quins, so a
holding on call against him wouldn't be harsh...
