HARLEQUINS HAS TEAMED UP WITH THE FOUNDATION TO RAISE FUNDS FOR
THE TONGA RELIEF EFFORT. DONATE YOUR CUPS AT THE STOOP THIS
WEEKEND TO SUPPORT!
Harlequins’ coaching group have rung the changes this week as
the Club looks to finish the pool stages of the Heineken
Champions Cup on a high at a sold-out Stoop.
There are nine changes to the Starting XV that claimed a
dramatic late victory at the Cardiff Arms Park last Friday
night, with a further five changes amongst the Impact Players
Hooker Jack Musk, prop Simon Kerrod and second row Hugh Tizard
step into the tight five up front, while openside flanker Luke
Wallace starts in the seven jersey among the back-row.
Four internationals are restored to the starting line-up in the
backline, with Scottish duo Scott Steele and Huw Jones joined by
Italian Tommy Allan and Springbok centre Andre Esterhuizen.
Outside back Nick David makes his Champions Cup debut in the
Famous Quarters, taking over from Tyrone Green at fullback at
The Stoop this weekend.
Prop Mak Wilson, lock George Hammond and scrum-half Lewis
Gjaltema step into the matchday squad among the Impact Players
alongside last week’s starters and recent England call-ups
Marcus Smith and Joe Marchant.
Senior Coach Tabai Matson said: “I think after Friday’s result
in Cardiff it’s given us an opportunity to look forward a week,
because we’re definitely in contention for the playoffs now,
which was our goal at the start of the year. So that’s been a
real positive.
“But also, having spoken to some of our senior players over the
weekend, they want to finish top in Europe. So, we roll into
this Friday night against Castres with an opportunity to play
well again with a different group. It’s a great opportunity for
guys who have been working furiously for months now to play at
The Stoop in front of a sold-out home crowd and cement our
European aspirations, which is a pretty exciting opportunity.”

Exactly the sort of team I wanted to see. That backline is still
so stacked with quality. Would have liked to see Hammond start
over Tizard after recent news, but I’m happy. Especially looking
forward to seeing David and Musk start

Well, if we are chasing another last minute win, make sure
Botica just has to kick to touch to win the game and its a
guaranteed try for us.....
Only kidding, forgive and forget and all that. Good to see
Tyrone rested as well although he'll probably be prowling around
as a water carrier....

Yeah very excited to see how Musk goes.
I hope he has a great game. He seems a character similar to
someone like Wev who is a real supporter of the club, loves
being in and around the match day squad and a guy whose got some
leadership qualities too.
Would like to have seen Hammond start as whilst you lose a bit
of weight in the scrum hes he a very handy line out option
unlike Tiz and Lamb has become a bit of a hybrid between an
enforcer and line jumper too (underrated!).

That is a much stronger Castres side than the one we played over
at their place.

list academy players without first team apps there?

Hard to know what to make of that starting 15, as 'they want to
finish top in Europe' but there's clearly a lot of squad
rotation to bed in the guys who'll have to pick-up the slack
during the 6N...but then Marler, Dommers and Andre all start. A
mixed bag!
Would hope it will be the classic 'travelling French can't be
bothered' walk-over but I suspect that they might come at us
pretty hard, at least until/if they go behind. No doubt Calamity
Botica will have a point to prove as well....

Dombrandt is the clear captain candidate with Lewies injured,
and Andre had last week off but is needed this week to glue an
unfamiliar backline together and offer Allan a bit of
protection.
I suspect that Marler just wants to play and nobody will tell
him otherwise.
