Us Supporters have got to change our mindset, key players are
going to leave every season whilst the SC is at the level it is
now, if a club is successful players will ask for more money,
its a fact that some players will be able to earn more
elsewhere. You now have a SC that everyone will hit the maximum
and probably 14 clubs, within 2 years all clubs will be very
closely matched with the better teams being those coached and
run better.

who I think is still out of contract at the end of the season:

My view is the Prem operated for years with Haves and Have-Nots.
As Quins fans, you have been in the former camp.
Regardless of the league position you guys have always (I
believe) spent up to the cap. As a result, there historically
seem to have been few academy products and long-standing players
who have left against the fans’ wishes.
The CVC money miraculously coincided with all teams being Haves
so the regular poaching from the likes of Irish, Sale and
Newcastle has calmed somewhat. Although in our case, we were
greatly helped by new owners willing to splash more cash.
As you say, the lowering of the cap has brought everybody’s
spending ability down so all clubs are more like the Have-Nots.
Fans of all clubs will be disappointed to see players leave
until there is more balance between players’ (perceived) worth
and the cap.

I have to disagree. He may be 34, but DC is our best scrum half
by a distance, and still one of the best 9's in the league. He
plays every game and is critical to our style of play. So whilst
he's no spring chicken he still, in my opinion, represents value
for money.
Not seen enough of Gjaltema, but Steele and Stafford aren't
anywhere near the calibre of DC, so it seems unlikely we have a
ready-made internal replacement just yet.
His new deal will doubtless be a reduction, but I don't expect
the club to lowball him and it be a repeat of the Mike Brown
situation.

Looking at it in the round, the total wages of the whole
premiership will be less, even allowing for an extra club. This
will result in some mix of (1) lower wages per player; and (2)
fewer players. I’m expecting an exodus of medium to high earning
senior players, especially overseas players. Japan and the USA
likely to be most attractive.

And (3) cheaper players. We'll see a lot more promotion of
Academy talent over the next few years, and probably some
unheralded overseas players. I imagine Green is actually a bit
of a bargain considering how critical he is to the team given we
picked him up before he was really on anyone's radar. Likewise,
Gjaltema has looked promising in his cameos so far and I doubt
was a big expenditure.

Whatever happens, with Laurie at the helm, Owen Eastwood in
situ, the coaching group setting a culture that the squad seem
to thrive under... I now have faith that we'll get it right more
often than not.

Of all the names on the list Tyrone Green is the one I'm most
worried about - I imagine he's in-line for a very substantial
pay increase and likely to be in high demand.

I can’t see players moving for a lot more money as all teams
have the same cap so all have to cut their cloth. How would we
afford a big signing unless we shift one out or maybe more lower
earners. I think it’s more of a case of players being told that
they can’t have a pay rise or maybe a cut in salary on contract
renewal. Another club might offer them a little more to tempt
them or as in Ford and Genge they’re going home. If there are
suddenly loads of players available does it not lower the value
overall. The other problem is that a team won’t be any good with
ten superstars as the rest will always be the weak links. You
need a careful balance. It must be very complicated trying to do
all this with overlapping contracts marquees academy credits
etc.
