I completely agree with the article. When Farrell and Smith were
on the pitch together against Australia, it was not working. The
moment Farrell came off and Smith could control the game and
again against South Africa, England were flying.
Farrell holds the team back and should not be even the squad.

I also think the suggestion for Ford being back in the squad is
spot on. He's definitely one of the two best fly halves in the
country. He's a fantastic player with a wide range of skills and
Marcus can learn a lot from him.

I've probably mentioned this before but the thing that moved
Ford out of the starting spot was his 2 disastrous kicking
performances some years back. One was missing 6 out of 7 vs
Wales and then an almost as bad one a few games later.
Ford has been a pretty good kicker since but some coaches have
long memories. Eddie clearly doesn't feel comfortable with Ford
starting unless there's a reliable kicker elsewhere in the squad
       - which limits selection options and is why we have Farrell
       shoehorned in at 12.
If it was me I'd have Smith/Ford alternating starting spot/bench
       for the near term.

I fear Farrell will be as difficult to get rid of as Boris.

Ford kicked for England in the 2019 semi final v New Zealand,
       and that went pretty well

Yeah, and Farrell's kicking hasn't been 100% reliable either. I
don't think it's a real problem for Eddie. I do think he sees
Ford as the scapegoat for when Eddie's gameplan doesn't work,
       though.

       Simmons clearly above Farrell too.
