Joe's reply is that he now has "another year to share with this
geriatric" (i.e. Danny Care). That gives a strong indication
that Joe isn't going anywhere just yet...

Yep I saw the Dalrymple post 'one legend re-signs and another
confirms he doesn't need too'. Good enough for me.
Of course, as mentioned above, that doesn't always mean he won't
or isn't but he's normally good to his word and the give and
take that he shares with the club shows a commitment on both
sides. Still, if Tigers offer him a million, I'm sure it's a
different conversation.

I just can't see it happening after next season for a number of
reasons:
He's happily settled down near the South Coast
He's a Quin through & through
Quins have been good to him and vice versa
Laurie knows how important he is to the club, off as well as on
the pitch and has shown that he wants to keep key players
Ewan Laws. Nuff said

Whenever I see Joe go over to Ewan at the end of the game my
heart sings. I was a teenager when Mike Ross was playing - I sat
there in my wheelchair at the front of block FG in the west
stand every home game and every home game Mike would come over
and have a chat afterwards. I can't tell you how happy that made
me back then. My parents were in touch with Mike and so, for my
18th birthday, he sent me one of his shirts signed by the entire
Quins squad. I was gutted when he left for Leinster, but chuffed
to see him establish himself as an international.
Fast forward to that big night in Cardiff in 2011. I was 21.
After the game, my friend and I went round to the car park to
see if we could get a glimpse of any of the squad and maybe the
trophy - little did we know how that night would pan out...
After taking photos absolutely beaming next to Robbo as he held
the trophy, we turned around to find Joe M standing next to us.
He said something as simple as, "lads, we're going to Oceana,
meet us there" and winked. We eventually hailed a cab and when
we arrived Joe was literally standing there on his own waiting
for us. He took us inside, got us VIP bands and took us to the
lift that went up to the VIP area where the whole squad +
coaches were drinking (it was already pretty rowdy). Got in the
lift, halfway up, broke down. My friend and I were in that lift
for hours - I can't tell you how many of the squad tried to get
a hand round each side of the lift and manually pull it down to
ground level. I do remember big Mo banging his fists on it so
hard that it shook. Many failed attempts at helping us out and a
fire brigade attendance later... We were back on solid ground.
Joe walks up to us: "so sorry about that lads, come back to our
hotel with us and we'll have a few there instead".
Back at the hotel, sitting at a table with COS and Tofty and
Joe, I remember thinking "this could only happen in rugby".
I don't think Joe recognises me now that I can finally grow
facial hair aged 31, but whenever I see him chatting to Ewan, it
takes me back to those days and I get the fuzzies. I know first
hand how much that means - and I can't help but well up a little
when I see Joe still taking the time to make a young guy's day.
I hope he remains a Quin until retirement, because the guy is an
absolute gem.

We sit a couple of rows back and the right of Ewen and family
and as such we are often privileged to get to see Joe's
interactions with Ewen close up and how much they both get from
it. Ewen was lost in the post match throng on Friday and we
could see Joe hunting along the line so we started jumping and
pointing, got a small thumbs up in return which made us feel
part of the Team :)

I also have one of those shirts from Mike - was he mass
producing them?!
That Cardiff story is an absolute classic. Bet you've told that
one a few times! You're absolutely right that this could only
happen in rugby. I dearly hope it stays that way.

Shah. If we don't tell them, maybe they will forget to sign
anyone

That's the 1st time I've heard that story TBQ, what a fantastic
night it was in Cardiff, I was pleased to be captured on camera
with the Mrs and pals around me jumping for joy at the end but
your story has made me well up big time!
I really don't think Joe will move on from Quins, there is too
much history there from both sides. I reckon he'll go into
coaching when Wales come calling for Bomb

That sounds plausible to me. On the rare occasions when he's
caught on camera not goofing around, it's clear that he has a
pretty incisive understanding of the game and I am sure his
technical grasp of the scrum is right up there.
I hope he isn't entirely lost to broadcasting, though. He's
tremendously good value.
