Marler To Tigers?
DIR By: WildQuin

Anyone else notice this post on Twitter last night by
@RugbyTigers?
Wishful thinking or inside information? Either way it goes
without saying I sincerely hope that it isn’t true. I’d always
assumed that Joe would be a one club player but with the cap
incoming, maybe not!

We had rumours that he was leaving this time last year as well.
Key for me is that moving to Tigers would either mean uprooting
his family or spending long periods away from them, things that
Joe has actively resisted doing in the past.
But perhaps Tigers have introduced him to a private air charter
firm who will use him as their brand ambassador in return for
free flights to and from Welford Road every day. That’s probably
outside the salary cap.

IIRC a few years back Joe moved from Sussex to the
Guildford/London area to save on commuting time but shortly
after moved back to Sussex because he missed his wider family
and mates, so moving to Leicester would seem odd after that.

I'd be amazed if Marler uprooted and left.

There is a story on RUCK (yes, I know) stating Marler is signed
up until 2023 (so next season). Also states that Bath are after
him. He wants 400k a season to go. The Quins coaching set up are
open the move but the hierarchy are not so willing.
Seems a right load of waffle to me!!!!

Perhaps Marler is playing them at their own game...

They seemed to be basing that on the fallout from brown leaving

This salary cap has made anything possible, there are going to
be a lot of players in the higher income bracket switching
clubs, we are going to have to get used to fan favourites moving
on. Think the club have been proven 100% correct in the Brown
decision, wouldn't be surprised if he retires or heads to Japan
soon.

We do need to work out the succession plan at LH at some point
in the next couple of seasons.
But we always worry about successors to those players with huge
boots to fill. Look how Green has filled Brownie's, Marcus has
filled NEv's, Dombrandt has filled Easter's, Kenningham/WEv have
filled Robshaw's... I have high hopes that Will Hobson might be
the answer to our prayers longer term once Joe's cab pulls off
the rank.
It seems pretty clear to me that - assuming Joe stays for at
least next season, but also hopefully a couple more seasons
after that - DC's heir is our most pressing task at hand.
