Fingers crossed Quins can get the deal done. From a rugby
perspective, its difficult to see why Tizard would want to
leave. The club have managed his game time and integration into
the first team pretty perfectly, and he's playing in a winning
team full of his peers/mates.
Hopefully this is nothing more than Tizard exploring the market
so he can be sure he's negotiating himself a reasonable deal at
Quins.
The reduced salary cap means we're going to see a lot more
'noise' then usual around transfers. Understandably, most
players won't be happy with a reduction or flat deal.

The reduced cap will be an issue for all but I’d expect that
players are alive to the reality of wages at the moment. I guess
it’s all we can hope that the spirit of the club and success all
play a key part in decisions, for some money needs to be now and
retirement isn’t far off but for younger players money is only a
few seasons away.

I know money probably talks with the cap coming down but if it
does transpire that Tizard is leaving I think we'll live to
regret it. A lot of the senior options haven't been fit for long
stretches and I think we really stand to lose something should
he leave and the more senior players continue to be only
partially available.
Baxter, Walker, Hobson, Lamb, Tizard is a promising future up
front. Would be shame to lose one of the more established guys
in that quintet to a rival.

I think we can only regret it if we have a choice in him going,
I very much doubt, if he does go that Quins did not try and keep
him.

It would be a great shame if he were to go but as Mark Evans has
said one of the signs a salary cap is operating successfully is
successful sides having to release players they would rather
keep.

It's a difficult one and you can see from his side of things
that the chance to play alongside Itoje in a side that will be
challenging every season appeals plus an extra £25k or so, makes
a huge difference at his age. If Symons is retiring then of
course Quins can manage that message with Tizard and he can have
comfort from being involved every week with Lewies and Lamb.
If he does decide to leave, then Hammond steps up and he looks
very good but we'll probably be in the same boat again with him,
if Symons stays and gets over the injuries.

I think we saw against Gloucester that Tizard is a 5 rather than
a 4, so his competition within the squad is more from Lewies
than Symons (with Lamb now emerging as the clear successor to
Symons). Tiz is arguably in better form than Steph right now,
but if Saracens are dangling a clearer run at a starting berth
you could see how he'd be tempted.

Trouble is that Hammond appears to be more of a stringy lineout
specialist (a very good one from what we've seen so far), while
Tizard is clearly more of the robust grafter type. I think it
will be a big loss to us unless he is replaced by someone
similar.
