Patchy but scrapped it, so can’t moan. However Foley and the
TMO. Come off it. Really poor today. The game needs better
than that.

The boys played really well today. Slippery ball and pitch and
unsettled conditions. We didn't give Glaws much of a chance to
show any dominance at any point in the game and we were camped
in their half in the second half.
Everyone played well. The tackling was really excellent, led by
Smith who tackled like an absolute demon. He also made some
lovely breaks and created some great opportunities which will
come off next week. Well played Marcus.
Our exceptional players were André and Danny, though. Both of
whom were thinking and playing on a higher level to everyone
else. Special mention goes to Jack Walker, who is just getting
better and is becoming more influential. He really is enjoying
his time in the quarters. Good for him and long may it last.
Next week's selection is going to be interesting in the second
row. Symons looked uncomfortable as he came off after a really
great performance. Lewies might not be back, which means we
could be seeing Lamb and Tizard. I would not be worried by that
at all.
The other issue is what to do with Northmore/Marchant if Murley
is fit?
We are building a really good squad in several areas, if not all
areas!
Well played today boys.

Haven’t seen the lineout stats for yesterday’s game, but it
looked much better and I don’t recall losing any? There was one
mistimed throw that went though Lamb’s hands, but we won that at
the tail anyway.

I thought we coped fairly well with their driving maul
yesterday. One try conceded against their main weapon late on is
pretty good. Disrupted them a lot more there than I feared we
would.

We disrupted at source by stealing the ball, always the best
defence.

That was a huge turnover count - 11 in total IIRC. It seems to
be an area where we’ve really developed, with Andre and Dommers
exceptional over the ball for such big men. If Will Evans gets
back to fitness, we could be fielding a back row of him,
Kenningham and Dombrandt by the end of the season, which would
have enormous pilfering potential.
Despite the relatively low scoreline, I thought there was a lot
of promise in attack but it was clearly a difficult day for it -
I think NEv was saying that the artificial pitch retained a
layer of moisture on the surface and was making the ball
slippery, and the wind was clearly a factor (it was strong
enough to overcome Marcus’s hair gel, which gives you and idea
of what it must have been like). Clearly the team didn’t adapt
terribly well to the difference that made to handling - but what
they were trying to do was creative and on another day would
have made for a lot more breaks.
I’d rather the team kept playing that way, because with more
time trying it in these conditions it will stick more often and
because come the business end of the season it will be warm and
dry and conditions will be ideal for our attack and style.

2-12 on turnovers, I seem to remember from a graphic during the
game.
They targeted Care-Smith axis with aim of reducing effectiveness
of Ester - but I don't think that worked that very well - but
perhaps enough to put a rusty Smith off his game. Being able to
play off Dombrandt, Care, Smith and, when chosen, Ester, it
gives the defence a lot to think about and any loose defending
and offloading means Ester/Marchant/Northmore have channels to
exploit...
One or two posters (one in particular, who also thought 36 had
the better of him yesterday) on Shed Web seem to bear grudge
against Ester for previous red card he had there. But most were
complementary about him and wish they had an equivalent.

I thought the comments on Shedweb came across as surprisingly
gracious. One of the more complimentary set of opposition
comments! Those saying 36 got the better of Andre must have been
watching a different game.

It's nice that Shedweb embraces Care in the Community.
