Really? I'd say he was very good under the high ball. His
kicking may not be great though. That's an area that they'll
struggle to match post Frans Steyn.

He's not Steward standard but Green is better than most
fullbacks under the high ball - not much he can do about his
height, though. It's not like Le Roux didn't miss plenty!
There's a queue of players waiting for a shot at 15.

If Green is to get called up to the Boks it'll be as a Kolbe
replacement and not Le Roux/Steyn. Doesn't fit what the boks do
with their 15 at all but is a much better fit at 14 when Kolbe
can't play. They're very similar.

Might you be able to explain this in a bit more depth, Kid? I'm
uncertain how Green can match Kolbe's abilities, likewise, how
Kolbe matches Green's...

They are both very fast, mazy runners who posses an ability to
beat defenders with acceleration and movement. Both pretty good
in the air too.
I can see the comparison, but I'm not sold personally. I'm sure
there's another Bok 15 waiting in the wings somewhere with a
howitzer of a boot...

In terms of kicking, Kolbe has a surprisingly good boot. He just
rarely uses it. There's a clip of him somewhere online, putting
over a ridiculously long drop goal in a French game.
As a comparison with Green, yes - Green has great footwork,
acceleration and a great step. However, he (nor any other player
in the world IMO) is a patch on Kolbe. Both are very good
defenders, in spite of their size. They really punch above their
weight. Green could do well on the wing, but he'd be a very good
fit at fullback for the Boks.

Others have taken words out of my mouth, but yeah:
Similar builds - "undersized" but plenty tough enough.
Lightning fast (Kolbe probably quicker but Green is plenty fast
enough).
Both can beat you in a phone box.
Both can play just about anywhere in the backs (Green can play
10, purportedly, which we haven't seen but someone has seen
somewhere and so can Kolbe - he's done it for Toulouse) although
they're more comfortable at wing or 15.
Better tacklers than they're given credit for. Green's last line
of defence in particular is some really sound tackling which
goes unsung.
Both have howitzers for boots (Kolbe kicks goals as well, just
doesn't do it for SA as they have Pollard, Steyns twain etc)
More important is perhaps what the boks do with their wingers.
Green would fit very well into what Kolbe does flying in off the
wing to pressure a ball carrier. Positioning wise Le Roux is
very good (gets a lot of stick from bok fans) and this is a
reason Nienaber and Erasmus have persisted with him. I'm not
sure Green is that similar a player to Le Roux and I'm less sure
that the boks brains trust would break from their strategy like
that.
Kolbe is undroppable when fit, but Green is a more than capable
deputy as he has a lot of the same skill set. You wouldn't lose
much were Kolbe not there, and he's more dynamic than other
options like Willemse, Kriel etc that the boks could pick on the
wing.
Kind of similar to De Allende and Esterhuizen actually. Not
Andre's fault that the guy ahead of him is infallible, just as
it isn't Tyrone's that Kolbe exists. Both would fit the game
plan, just stuck behind a "better" player.

Very well said.
I can't understand why the Books put Kriel in the wing though.
He's a George Lowe type centre, with DDA in the JTH mould. A
perfect foil for each other. But not an international wing IMO.

Given his performance today, a bit premature on my behalf here.
Two missed opportunities in attack and completely asleep for
Slade's try. Needs a couple of weeks rest to reset himself.
Andre on the other hand? Imperious.

Re-watch the Slade try the pass off the floor was magic - wrong
stepped Green and made it look bad. Really great work from
Exeter.
The other two he will have a few nightmares about poor guy.
Though he has been outstanding the past year. Considering PG
never picked him!
