HARLEQUINS’ COACHING GROUP HAS NAMED THE MATCHDAY 23 TO PLAY AT
BIG GAME 13
There are five changes to the starting XV that secured two wins
from two games in the Champions Cup against Cardiff at The Stoop
last weekend, with England international props Joe Marler and
Will Collier, second row Matt Symons, fly-half Will Edwards and
wing Louis Lynagh restored to the starting line-up.
Symons returns to the XV for the first time since October 23,
having struggled with injury so far this campaign.
Previewing the game, Attack and Backs Coach Nick Evans said:
“Everyone at Quins is just so excited to get back to a Big Game.
I think this is a very important fixture for us. We’ve got a
really important run of three games coming up and they come
thick and fast. We’ve just come off the back of a couple of
really good wins in Europe and now we have a run of three games
in one stretch.
“I think if you put the context of the Big Game aside, the
importance of this game from a Club point of view is big. Then
you add a team like Northampton and it makes it equally as
massive as well. Both teams are going reasonably well in the
Premiership and both play really positive rugby. They like to
move the ball around a lot and, hopefully, it will make for a
really great game for fans to watch in the stands.
“But for us, it’s super important and we want to back up a
couple of decent performances in Europe and, actually, a decent
performance against Leicester in terms of intensity and
physicality, despite a loss. This is a real big game for us.”

No Smith is a bit ominous.. Wonder whether we've had a few COVID
positives, because we lack backrow cover as well - Lewies seems
to come off quite frequently so will be surprised if he did the
whole 80 assuming he is the person to cover.

Must be Will Edwards biggest game ever - I don’t know if Marcus
has Covid19 or is injured but certainly a huge moment for the
Club. COYQ

Strange decision to make no reference as to why our most 'box
office' player is not listed for the flagship game of the
season. Many tickets will have been sold on the back of
Marcus's involvement. More than slightly worrying. Great
opportunity for Edwards though.

I am guessing an injury would be mentioned. Club probably
respecting his privacy. Only problem with tht is all the
conspiracy theories that will start....and then become fact

No Smith is a huge loss. Could be the game gone in my view.
Also, why not mention it if he has covid? It’s hardly a
sensitive update. On that basis I’ll go left field and assume
he’s been naughty and got himself nicked. Seriously though, for
the club to ignore his omission is baffling

Also the issue of players heading back home for Christmas. With
Murley starting, I wonder if Smith is having to isolate back in
Brighton.
If I remember correctly we didn’t put out an unavailable/injured
list last week for Cardiff. So I would imagine that we are
attempting to keep covid related absences private.
