       Agree with that PoorFour.
And your proposition sounds like it should be reducible to a
       mathematical formula.
       Like 1.9 x 0.4 or something
What are those values looking like at the moment?

The R0 for Omicron is apparently 3.47 times that of Delta (i.e.
It is 3 and a half times more infectious), and the
hospitalisation rate appears to be around 50-70% lower - though
both figures are provisional at this stage. But if they're even
broadly correct, Omicron hospitalisations are likely to run
ahead of Delta unless we put precautions in place.

The big unknown factor is the degree to which booster’s will
prevent infection and/or the development of serious illness.
There are a lot more factors at play than just the variants.
The other thing I’d add is just because the R number is 3.7
times higher - doesn’t mean that everyone is 3.7x more likely to
catch COVId, peoples attitudes to risk (presumably driven by the
majority based on their age/health) will be a huge driver here.

Also worth bearing in mind that reportedly two-thirds of
hospitalisations were people admitted to hospital for other
       reasons.

Is there still a thing for the ball delivery? Wouldn’t mind

Its a simple numbers game now, more cases = more people
isolating = reduced staffing that COULD = less NHS capacity for
any hospitalisations which Could be as many as with Delta so
agree with Poorfour that we ain't out of the wood by a long
       shot!
Fursty, all I can say re infection rates is that I know of three
people, one being my wife, who have had the booster and have,
within the last 5 days, tested positive from C19 for the first
time. They are not people who go clubbing and have been cautious
with what they expose themselves too - Luckily the symptoms are,
at the moment, like a cold but apparently people can suddenly
       get worse quickly.

It’s even simpler than that. Omicron is putting very few people
anywhere near a doctor let alone a hospital - if you’re
vulnerable, then you’re vulnerable - otherwise it’s adopted many
of the characteristics of the common cold.
The only reason for being “under pressure” is the need to self
isolate so the NHS is stuck with fewer staff.
Scotland and wales have gone stark staring mad.

My wife is a nurse. The biggest issue she has found is not the
numbers on the wards/in hosp, its that fellow nurses/doctors are
having to isolate, leaving them really short.

Yep the big game is 100% guaranteed to be unaffected - earliest
       meeting of ministers is
       Dec 28.
