HARLEQUINS’ COACHING GROUP HAS NAMED THE TEAM THAT WILL KICK-OFF
THE CLUB’S 2021/22 HEINEKEN CHAMPIONS CUP CAMPAIGN THIS WEEKEND
Harlequins' coaches have named an almost entirely unchanged
starting XV to face Top14 side Castres on Sunday, with back row
Tom Lawday taking up the seven jersey in place of Harlequins
Academy man Jack Kenningham, who takes up a spot amongst the
Impact Players in the 20 jersey this week.
Returning to the match day 23, fly-half Will Edwards is named
amongst the Impact Players in place of Tongan international
Viliami Taulani, joining fellow backs Lewis Gjaltema and Oscar
Beard amongst the replacements.
Lineout and Defence Coach Jerry Flannery said: “We’ve had a good
training week and the players have been really invested in
preparing for a big first round in Europe. We all know it is
important to start the campaign strongly.
“Castres are a proud team and come off a good win against Racing
92 last weekend, so we know we are facing a team with some
momentum behind them.
“The Champions Cup is the premier competition in the northern
hemisphere. It’s something everyone is aware of, and we’ve
prepared this week with the intention to start well in France on
Sunday.”

Strong team. Clearly hoping to dominate up front with a back row
of chis lawday and dombrandt. Shame about all the injuries but
im really excited about seeing this scrummy in action (cant
spell the name)

Anyone know what the Castres team is please? Cant find it on
Twitter.
Don't mind seeing Kenningham on the bench as his workload needs
to be managed. Lawday is a workhorse and this sort of game will
suit him.

A really good team. Come on boys! Let's make a statement in
Europe!
Lawday is having a really good year/season and deserves his
start. Kenners has also been excellent but happy to see him get
a relative rest. He is still young and so hugely physical.
I am also really pleased that Huw Jones has got another chance
to show what he can do. As the weeks progress our new players
will hopefully continue to get stronger and blend in with our
regular team successfully.
I wonder what is going on with Nick David? He has looked decent
in his outings so far. Fair play to Oscar Beard if he is being
selected ahead of David. I suppose tough calls need to be made.
